Consulting Weekend
Logo - red figure 2
Dear {FIRST_NAME|friend of Spirit of Grace},

This weekend is a major opportunity to shape the future of Spirit of Grace.  Bill Tenny-Brittian, a church consultant, Mary Frances, the Assistant Program Director for New Congregations for the ELCA, and Juliet Hampton, the director for evangelical mission for the Nebraska Synod will be visiting our congregation to observe, learn, and share recommendations on our future ministry together.  This is an incredibly important chapter in the life of Spirit of Grace.

Please plan to attend both of our gatherings this weekend.  Friday at 7:00pm will see an initial presentation about Church and Culture, and Sunday at 7:00pm will be a presentation of recommendations and a Q&A session.  Refreshments will be served at both events.

Please also make sure to attend the Braden Badertscher benefit on Sunday at 5:00pm.  Please give generously and enjoy the dinner, but make sure you make it to Spirit of Grace so we can start promptly at 7:00pm.

Thanks for helping us plan and dream our future together.

Peace,
/s/ Pastor Ted

Consultant Visiting this Weekend

On Friday, January 25 at 7:00pm and Sunday, January 27 at 7:00pm, there will be gatherings of the entire congregation.  Bill Tenny-Brittian will be here to consult with us on the future of our ministry together.  It is CRUCIAL that you attend both gatherings, especially the one on Sunday night at 7:00pm.

On Saturday, January 26, from 9:00am - 3:00pm, there will be a "Boot Camp" for selected leaders in Leadership roles.  Your participation in these events is crucial as we receive recommendations that will guide us into 2013 and beyond!

Reclaiming the "L" word

Starting February 3, the Sunday night forum will begin studying the book Reclaiming the "L" word.  We're hoping for broad congregational participation as we examine what it means to be Lutheran and look ahead to becoming an organized Lutheran congregation in June.

If you've not been a part of a community group in a while, consider investing time in this Sunday night 7:00pm group.

Library News

One of the books on our "Featured Books" shelf is "What Does the Lord Require?" by James C. Howell.  This book makes the verse from Micah 6:8 come alive and can serve as a guide for us today.  This is the week of Prayer for Christian Unity, and the theme is "What does God Require of Us?"  Many of us are not familiar with the book of Micah in the Old Testament.  Lynn Embury donated this book to our library.

CASA Volunteer Training

Do you have a heart for the abused and the neglected children?  Would you like to advocate through the court system for the best interest of children? Training will be given at the Phelps County Court House training room during evenings and weekends (30 hrs.)  308-995-2102x333 or phelpscasa@phelps.nacone.org for more info.

Third Annual Spiritual Guided Retreat

Apostle/Imposter Lay Leadership Academy

Do you ever wonder if you're qualified to lead in the church?  Maybe you're just an imposter?!  This conference can help you see your vocation to lead.  Feb 23-24, Sullivan Hills Camp in Lodgepole.  $73/person before Jan. 19, $88 after.  More info from Synod office at 402-896-5311.
