welcome back to school

9/12 Friends of Lane Meeting, 7 pm in the Cafeteria

School store open 6:30-7 pm - come buy your Lane gear

Please come and join Friends of Lane for our first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year on Tuesday, September 12th at 7:00pm in the Cafeteria. Meet our Principal Brian Tennison, other members of the Administration, and the new Board and Committee members of the Friends of Lane. This will be your opportunity to learn more about what Friends of Lane does and how you can help. Getting involved in Friends of Lane is a great way to be involved in your child's LTAC and High School experience. This is our most attended meeting of the year, so please try to attend!

The school store will be open before the meeting from 6:30-7pm to provide an opportunity to buy Lane gear.

Welcome from Principal Tennison

Dear Lane Tech Community:

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year.  I hope everyone noticed what an active parent community can accomplish - as you dropped your children off for school or came to Lane for the first time this year.  New lights in our parking lot are because of you!!!  We are also able to start our renovation of the female locker room (something that has not been done since the 1960s).  I would like to thank you for the effort and generosity that you have shown through giving time and money.  Both are needed and appreciated.

As we move into this school year, our theme is kindness.  To listen and understand each other in our school community, we are promoting the idea of being kind to others and ourselves.  This was a theme as we interviewed personnel this summer, and at our opening meeting this week.

Thank you so much for the donuts and coffee!  The tradition of greeting teachers with a little sugar and caffeine is a welcome treat, and the teachers gave you a round of applause in appreciation.

Finally, I would like to explain the vision of learning that our school is moving toward.  Lane Tech is a school with inquiry-driven instruction and student-centered learning, where students express their learning through 4 Cs:  Critical Thinking, Creative Problem Solving, Collaboration, and with Confidence.  As we strive to meet this goal, please know that the whole person is incredibly important to us, and to that end we have hired a second dean of students to aid in restorative practices and increased conversations; we have also appointed two assistant principals to work on Culture and Climate.  I am excited to say that Ms. Hanly will lead this work.

So, welcome to your first year or last year at Lane—welcome to the family and the strongest parent community in the city!

Sincerely,
Brian Tennison
Principal, Lane Tech College Prep

Freshmen parents gathered in the Memorial Garden on Aug. 31 for the Freshman Welcome Party as the school gratefully accepted a $25,000 check from the Chicago Cubs.

School Improvements Supported by Friends of Lane

Thanks to your support, Friends of Lane's 2016-2017 fundraising efforts resulted in contributions totaling more than $500,000!  These funds were allocated to new lights and renovations for the parking lot, renovations to the girls’ locker room, teacher grants, new sports equipment, upgrades to television monitors school-wide, and the installation of a new marquee in front of the school. These much-needed improvements were made possible through the unprecedented generosity of our supporters, especially our wonderful LT school families! FOL is grateful for your support.
