Speed Skating Canada is holding their 126th Annual General Meeting at the University of Ottawa June 20-23, 2013.  OSSA's delegates will be present to share their successes from the past season and learn from other speed skating Branches.


Provincial Government promotes concussion awareness

The Ontario Ministry Tourism, Culture and Sport recently released a series of resources on concussions.  Share with your teammates, clubs and fellow speed skaters alike to ensure everyone is skating safely.

Draft Technical Bulletin

As presented at the 2013 OSSA AGM, a draft technical bulletin for 2013-2014 has been prepared. There are a few items in the draft that are not fully flushed out as we are awaiting direction from SSC.

Clubs are asked to review and send their comments to by Tuesday, June 18th.  Comments will be discussed by the Technical Committee before preparing the final bulletin.

Congratulations to the following individuals who were awarded for their contributions to Ontario Speed Skating this year:

·         Female Coach of the Year: Kelly Ball

·         Male Coach of the Year: Mike Rivet

·         Official of the Year: Laura Woodall

·         Outstanding Administrator: Mark O’Donnell

·         Rising Star - Long Track: Isabelle Weidemann

·         Rising Star - Short Track: Oliver Scharf

·         Skater of the Year - Long Track Female: Ivanie Blondin

·         Skater of the Year - Long Track Male: Richard McLennan

·         Skater of the Year - Short Track Female: Renee Steenge

·         Skater of the Year - Short Track Male: William Preudhomme

·         Volunteer of the Year: Sue Townley & Jim Hovey

Nominations were received in March and April with awards presented at the 2013 OSSA AGM.


OSSA Board is seeking VP Finance and Administration and Committee Volunteers

With the recent completion of the OSSA Annual General Meeting, the position of Vice President - Finance and Administration remains vacant.  The OSSA Board of Directors is currently seeking applications from interested volunteers for this position. The nomination form can be downloaded here.
