Re: Selection Criteria



These documents outline the process for selecting athletes to the 2013-2014 Provincial Training Team, Provincial Development Team, and Quest for Gold Ontario Athlete Assistance Program. All eligible athletes will automatically be considered and ranked by the OSSA Selection Committee. Athletes requesting a Canada Card Exception (CCE), Residency Exception, and/ or Next Generation athletes (over 23) must submit documentation to OSSA Manager, Sport Programs no later than November 15, 2013. A DRAFT list of nominated Ontario Card athletes will be published by January 13, 2014. A FINAL list of nominated Ontario Card athletes will be published by February 27, 2014.

Officials Clinic
The Gloucester Concordes are hosting a Level 1 Officials Clinic over two nights on November 12 & 19 (6:30pm - 9:00pm). The course is being offered at no cost. If interested, contact Laurel Rockwell at president@gloucesterconcordes.ca

The Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) National Summit brings together leaders who work to enhance the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. CS4L recognizes that quality sport and physical activity offer rich benefits to Canadian society through improved health, stronger communities, higher sporting achievement, and stronger national identity. By improving sport, CS4L aims to improve the lives of all Canadians. Sport4Life Funding Applications


Speed Skating Canada is pleased to introduce the Sport4Life Grant program, made available to provide support to clubs in membership recruitment, safety and program expansion. Applications are now being accepted, and can be submitted by Clubs or Branches. A letter of endorsement from a Branch must be submitted with all applications. All grants are based on a 50/50 contribution shared basis between the applying Club/Branch and Speed Skating Canada. A maximum of $5,000 per grant application will be considered. 


All grants submitted on time and with all required supporting documents will be reviewed and selected as per the criteria listed below: 

  • Open to Branches and Clubs registered as members of Speed Skating Canada 
  • Grant requires 50% contribution shared between Applicant and SSC
  • Must be focused on safety, club development/sustainability, expansion and development of programs and competitions to support further development of the club. 
  • The project must be completed between November 10th, 2013 and March 15th, 2014 
  • The applicant must submit a final written report by March 31st, 2014 (a template will be provided)
  • Send your completed application to Dawn Currie dcurrie@speedskating.ca prior to November 15th.

Skate to Sochi
Road to Sochi

Wouldn't it be great to have your entire speed skating club in Sochi to cheer on the Canadian athletes and watch them bring home the gold? Well while that may not be possible, you can still get your club together to celebrate the Olympic Winter Games and Skate to Sochi! 

Are you ready to get your SPEED on? Can your club skate to Sochi? Join the journey and celebrate our Olympic athletes as they make their way to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.  Up for the challenge? Contact Dawn Currie dcurrie@speedskating.ca to register your club.  If your club collectively skates the 8,265km from Ottawa to Sochi, you could win VIP passes and 2 nights accommodations to attend the Short Track World Championships in Montreal in March 2014.
