President's Message
Hello ARV Supporters and Volunteers,
Happy New Year!  It’s hard to believe it is 2018.  I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday, a Happy New Year, and will have a prosperous 2018.
New Year’s Resolution – Spread the word - Spay and Neuter
Just recently, in a window of a couple months, we rescued 7 pregnant moms from the shelter which equated to 37 puppies!  Their babies will not end up in the shelter, but they will take up open homes that could have gone to waiting shelter dogs. As a result, animals are euthanized!! Just this past year in California over 500,000 pets were euthanized!!!  Remember please spay and neuter your animals.  It is healthier for them and there are many affordable spay and neuter options for you.  Please help spread the word.
Here at ARV we have many things to be thankful for.  We have wonderful supporters who support us throughout the year and at our major fundraiser, Wag ‘n Walk, in September.  We have an awesome group of veterinarians who provide the best care for our animals.  They are Anza Animal Clinic in Thousand Oaks and Valley Veterinary Clinic in Simi.  We have an awesome group of volunteers and fosters.  We are an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff or facility.  We rely on our wonderful fosters in saving these animals in need.  We have two wonderful pet stores that allow us to hold our adoption events.  Every Saturday we are at R & R Pet Lifestyle and Supply (privately owned) at 2780 Tapo Canyon Road in Simi and the 1st Sunday of the month at Unleashed by Petco at 475 E. Avenida de los Arboles in Thousand Oaks.

Success Story
By Ann (Foster)

We rescued Honey from the shelter. Sadly, her prior owners had given her up because their other dog did not get along with her.  I can understand that because she is very confident and marched into my house as if it was her right!  I had to watch her because one of my own dogs is a little timid and was going to get her nose put out by this usurper.  However, they both settled down after I took them for a long walk together. This often solves a lot of problems.
Honey is a very pretty dog and, as her name implies, a light golden color. Possibly a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mixed with maybe a Beagle? She was about 18 months old when she came to me, full of energy and excitement and loved to race around the garden looking for squirrels. She was challenging when we went outside for the last time before bed as she would disappear on the hill and under bushes.  She absolutely refused to come down when called.  She would just turn up at the door, tail wagging, when she'd had enough fun and the rest of us had gone inside.  It was almost like she was saying, “OK I'm done now, let me in.”
She was at her sweetest when lying next to me on the sofa.  She did this every evening, and if I had a visitor it was their turn for a snuggle.  She was not with me for long before she was adopted by a lovely couple.  Their dog had passed away and they were now ready to fill the gap he left behind.
Thank you David and Rachel for offering your home to Honey. I know you are a very active couple which is exactly what she needs.
