Catalyst Joins Forces With the 30% Club of the United States and 30% Club Canada on Initiatives
Catalyst is pleased to partner with the Future Female Directors Program of the 30% Club of the United States to form the next class of Women On Board™. Through this effort, Women On Board™ and the 30% Club are ensuring more board-ready women are provided connections and access to sitting directors. Supporters of the 30% Club and Catalyst, including chairs and CEOs, will be invited to serve as mentors/sponsors for Women On Board™ program participants.

Additionally, the 30% Club Canada and Catalyst are co-hosting an invitation-only Corporate Board Summit: Solutions to Accelerate Progress during the 2016 Catalyst Canada Honours on Monday, November 7, 2016, in Toronto. The Summit brings together Canadian business leaders, regulatory agency officials, and board diversity advocates to collaborate on effective strategies for change.
Catalyst Joins Coalition of Partners to Announce “Girls, Women and the Global Goals”
In a commitment announced at the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting on September 20, Catalyst joined a coalition of over 20 partners from the public and private sectors working together to achieve the gender equality targets set forth in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals. Other partners include Catalyst supporters Avon, EY, IBM, Procter & Gamble, Pfizer, Sodexo, Unilever, and Walmart. Catalyst committed to closing the gender leadership gap by helping to source exceptional women board candidates. As reported in Fortune, Deborah Gillis, President & CEO of Catalyst, said, “We’re trying to dispel the myth that the underrepresentation of women on corporate boards is a supply problem.”
Equilar Diversity Network Platform Newly Launched to Aid With Diversifying Boardrooms
Announced at the Equilar and Nasdaq 2016 Board Leadership Forum, the Equilar Diversity Network is a new feature available through Equilar’s data platform BoardEdge that allows diverse director candidates to be identified through one platform. The registry houses over 150,000 profiles of public company executives and board members sourced from organizations and partners like Catalyst, Committee for Economic Diversity, and the 30% Club, with a focus on boardroom diversity.
Boards More Diverse When Women Lead
The relationship between women in key leadership positions on boards and diversity on boards continues to demonstrate positive outcomes. According to a study by 2020 Women on Boards, there are a larger number of women in board seats when women occupy positions such as CEO, Board Chairs, or Nominating Committee chairs. The report states that among Fortune 1000 companies, those with women at the helm have over 27% women in board seats compared with 18% when men occupy leadership roles.
Catalyst Corporate Board Services “On the Move”
The seventh SAIS Global Conference on Women in the Boardroom took place in September. Catalyst’s Brande Stellings, Vice President of Corporate Board Services, and Serena Fong, Vice President of Government Affairs, presented as strategic partners for the closed-door session and conference on Do We Need a National Campaign for Board Diversity?

In the Huffington Post blog post entitled The Path to Parity: Search Professionals Are Catalysts for Bringing Diversity to Boards, Deborah Gillis, CEO of Catalyst, and Janice Ellig, Co-CEO of Chadick Ellig and Chair of the Women’s Forum of New York Breakfast of Corporate Champions, make three simple suggestions that search firms can adopt to accelerate board diversity.

Serena Fong, Catalyst VP of Government Affairs, emphasizes the longstanding business case for women on corporate boards in a Toronto Star article that addresses the fact that, despite disclosure requirements and “comply and explain” policies for gender parity, almost half of firms on the TSX still have no women directors. Catalyst released a report in June that was commissioned by the Government of Ontario, with 11 recommendations for accelerating women to boards.

Katherine Giscombe, VP and Women of Color Practitioner of Global Member Services, writes a quarterly column entitled Conversations With Catalyst: Wielding Our Power, in Diversity Woman magazine. The column focuses on the benefits and unique perspective women of color bring to corporate boards. The Fall 2016 issue also features Deborah Gillis, CEO of Catalyst, on its cover.
