Helen Sanderson & Ahmed Dickinson: Cuban Music on Two Guitars

Concerts at the Cervantes is an exciting new platform for outstanding emerging artists in the field of Iberican classical music. Continuing the 2015 programme is a new collaboration between Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas and Helen Sanderson, exploring the little-known but compelling two-guitar repertoire of Cuba. With irresistible Cuban rhythms, this is music for the feet as well as the heart. Join us in the beautifully-renovated Auditorium at the Instituto Cervantes to bask in the warm and colourful classical music of Cuba.

Mexican flautist Alejandro Escuer is one of the genre’s foremost exponents in a booming contemporary music scene. His many recordings, teachings and work with composers and ensembles such as Onix and Luminico have led to an international reputation and praise as one of the most creative players of our time. He is joined by leading Anglo-Mexican guitarist Morgan Szymanski in a varied and distinct programme showcasing some of the masterpieces of British and Mexican composers.

Orfeó Català: 'Song of the Stars'

Formed in 1891, Orfeó Català is one of Spain’s most historic choirs. The driving force behind the construction of the Palau de la Música Catalana concert hall, it is still a symbol of huge influence in Catalan culture. The centrepiece of this Catalan programme is the Cant de les estrelles (Song of the Stars), a work by Enric Granados which had been lost for decades and was recently re-discovered. Crowning the performance is a selection of works by Pau Casals, Toldrà, Montsalvatge and others, illustrating the remarkable legacy of this territory.
