We hope everyone had a great holiday. We're really looking forward to the new year ahead and have some great concerts and events lined up for 2014. Stay tuned for updates!

Giving a Bit
Thanks a million to all those who supported us with donations in December. If you'd still like to donate to ILAMS you can now help to raise money for us 
throughout the year simply by doing your normal online shopping! A new initiative called Giving a Bit allows the retailers you shop with online to donate up to 3% of your total basket spend to ILAMS, at no extra cost to you. There are hundreds of retailers working with the scheme, such as Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Amazon, Love Film, Currys, Debenhams and Argos.

It couldn't be easier to set up. Simply visit and once you have created your account go to 'Support your favourite charity', type in 'Iberian & Latin American Music Society' and then click on 'Join this community'. To make donating completely automated, download the 'Forgetmenot' widget at and a drop-down message will appear when you next visit any retailer registered with the scheme.

The Piano Concerto dates from 1951 (not 1961 as the Naxos CD label states on the back) and has been recorded several times before but it is the Naxos release from last year that shines as a powerful and persuasive performance of this work. Venezuelan trumpeter, Francisco "Pacho" Flores, a product of the ground-breaking Venezuelan National System of Youth and Children Orchestras (El Sistema), offers a recital with pianist Pepe Gallego at the Bolivar Hall. Pacho is increasingly recognised for his outstanding performances and recordings. He is a first-prize winner of the Maurice André International Competition, the world's most prominent trumpet contest. A founding member of the Venezuelan Simón Bolívar Brass Quintet, Mr. Flores has played first trumpet in the world's greatest orchestras under the direction of Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Seiji Ozawa, Giusseppe Sinopoli, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, and Gustavo Dudamel, among others. His solo performances include appearances with orchestras such as the Kiev Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg Camerata, the Ensemble Orchestralde Paris, the Orchestré de la Garde Républicaine, the NHK Symphony, the Tokyo Symphony, the Osaka Philharmonic, and the Simón Bolívar Orchestra of Venezuela. In recital, he has performed in venues such as the New York Carnegie Hall, the Paris Salle Pleyel and the Tokyo Opera City.
