This is an excellent bargain reissue of some distinct rarities. Mompou is associated, with some justification, with his piano music, but it translates surprisingly well to an orchestral medium. Opening with the early Suburbis, which is given very subtle treatment by Manuel Rosenthal (of Offenbach fame) followed by some delightful colouring by Alexandre Tansman, of the Scenes d'enfants. Both arrangers give the music a piquant French accent. The picture is completed by hearing the composer orchestrating in his own colours... READ MORE

A world-renowned Spanish pianist on a rare visit to the UK, Joaquín Achúcarro has been an internationally acclaimed pianist for almost 50 years, named ‘Artist for Peace’ by UNESCO in recognition of his extraordinary artistic achievement. A champion of Spanish composers, tonight he includes works by Granados and two books from Albeniz’s masterpiece, Iberia.

Since its foundation in November 2011, theMC Quintet has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in UK such as St Martin-in-the-Fields, The Forge, Kings Place, Southbank Centre (Purcell Room), Bath Guitar Festival, London Guitar Festival, Kings Place Festival, and Edinburgh Guitar and Music Festival.

Sergio Tiempo was born in Venezuela and is a former protégé of Martha Argerich. His powerful individuality has drawn rave reviews from the press worldwide. Tiempo's programme tonight is inspired by his recent new fatherhood. Each of the pieces represents the personality of a different member of his family, including Villa Lobos' 'A Prole Do Bebe' for his little daughter. But there's another family member - the audience. In an inclusive gesture, Tiempo has decided to ask you, the audience, to decide which six Chopin Etudes you would like him to play. Voting details to be announced.
