The recording is also very natural... READ MORE

(Not an ILAMS concert, but one we highly recommend!)

'Immensely distinguished.' BBC Music Magazine

Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire - sought-after the world over for his interpretations of classical and romantic repertoire, and for his duo appearances with Martha Argerich - presents works by three musical giants. The first half consists entirely of Beethoven. First we hear the brief and tenderAndante favori, and following it the mystical explorations and vivid contrasts of the composer's final Sonata in C minor, Op.111. In the second half, Freire turns his attention to the Romantic repertoire. Two of Debussy's Preludes are matched with two of Rachmaninov's best-lovedPreludes, short, atmospheric pieces rich in melody and expressiveness. The programme closes with a selection of Chopin classics.

Ludwig Van Beethoven Andante favori, WoO. 57 | Piano Sonata in C minor, Op. 111
Claude Debussy 'Reflets dans l'eau' from Images, Set 1 | 'Poissons d'or' from Images, Set 2
Sergey Rachmaninov Prelude in B minor Op. 32, No.10 | Prelude in G sharp minor, Op. 32 No.12’
Fryderyk Chopin Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op. 52 | Berceuse in D flat, Op. 57 | Scherzo No. 4 in E, Op. 54
