We’re excited to be expanding our program with the Painted Dog
Conservation project in Zimbabwe. It has seen spectacular results
already through the mobile clinic program, run in conjunction with St
Patrick’s Hospital in Hwange. To date, nearly 3000 people have been
tested for HIV and 1039 patients now receive treatment and care as a
direct result of this program. We ran a successful male circumcision
pilot program, the first in the area, with Population Services
International. Approximately 18000 people have seen a doctor through the
mobile clinics, many for the first time.
Now, we’re planning to
expand HIV testing and treatment, and male circumcision, to reach more
people in the area, and initiate a prevention of mother to child
transmission program. Part of this effort is equipping and
training staff at primary healthcare clinics in the area, getting the
clinics certified to provide HIV treatment and PMTCT, and training
community health workers to support patient follow-up.
All of
this is possible through generous support from individuals and our
venture parters, Boehringer Ingelheim, Draper Richards Kaplan
Foundation, Global Strategies for HIV Prevention, the Mulago Foundation,
and Planet Wheeler Foundation.
2012 is going to be an exciting
year for Wild4life. We greatly appreciate your part in this through your
continued interest, help, and support. From the Wild4life team we wish
you all the best for the upcoming holidays.
