Did You Know?

Blueberries Can Improve Brain Function:

In a study with people diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), researchers found that after 16 weeks of consuming the equivalent of one cup of blueberries a day, people with mild MCI had better cognitive performance than people given a placebo. Other studies have shown that the antioxidants in blueberries protect against heart disease, cancer, and other diseases. (Research: University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center.)

Fruits and Vegetables with the Most Pesticides:

Based on the US Department of Agriculture, conventionally grown strawberries have the most pesticide residue than other fruits or vegetables. Second on the list is spinach, which averages twice as much pesticide residue by weight as any other crop…followed by broccoli, nectarines, apples, peaches, pears, cherries, grapes, celery, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, and potatoes. Produce least likely to contain pesticide residue: sweet corn, avocados, pineapples, cabbage, onions, papayas, asparagus, mangoes, eggplant, honeydew melon, and kiwis. (Sonya Lunder, author of Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce.

Natural Weed Killer:

Mix one gallon of vinegar, two cups Epsom salts, and one-quarter cup of dish soap. Pour into a sprayer and spray on your weeds.

Trade Sweet Snacks for Healthy Fats:

Load up on the sugary stuff and you might look older than you actually are…that’s because eating sugar leads to the formation of harmful molecules called Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs). AGEs weaken your skin’s supply of youth-promoting collagen and elastin, causing wrinkles and sagginess. When the afternoon munchies strike, reach for a snack without sugar such as half an avocado drizzled with lemon or lime juice. The creamy green fruit is packed with skin-plumping fatty acids as well as the antioxidant vitamin E, which can help fight sun damage when pared with the vitamin C in citrus. “Ever since taking this training, many doors of opportunity have opened up for me both professionally and personally. I originally thought I’d just take one 60-hour training through the Motivational Institute of Hypnotherapy, but I soon realized I was on an incredible path of change and I needed to continue. The training was thorough and professional. I obtained both the tools and self-confidence to succeed in my career and in my personal life. The teachers are superb and they have a wide range of expertise. Marla herself is amazing; she is a great teacher and has been a wonderful mentor to me.”  ~ K. Sheppard

Letter from the Executive Director

Hi Everyone,

Law of Imagination…What the mind can conceive, it can achieve.

I want to tell you about Marissa, an 8-year-old girl who had a degenerative nerve disorder that affected her ability to walk. Her doctors and parents were preparing her to accept the fact that she’d be wheelchair bound; yet she refused to accept that as her fate.

Ultimately Marissa was sent to a rehab center in Northern California. She worked hard at physical and occupational therapy, however she wanted more. One of the nurses saw how determined she was to walk and taught her how to imagine herself walking again.

One day while in bed, she was visualizing herself running and playing on the playground with all her friends…Suddenly her bed started moving!

Marissa shouted, “My bed is moving and I did it”to this day, Marissa is walking on her own.

Little did Marissa know that at the same time San Francisco experienced their 1990 earthquake, but in her mind she made it work!

Imagination, visualization, and hypnosis are interchangeable…they are powerful tools that can be used to achieve one’s desired outcome. Keep believing.

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”  ~ Winston Churchill
