Did You Know?

Reduce Your Appetite by Sniffing Certain Foods:

Use your nose with any food to help reduce your appetite. Sniff each bite of your meal quickly five times before eating. Fast sniffs signal food messages to the brain. This decreases hunger and works to satisfy the appetite without consuming excess calories. The stronger the smell of the food, the stronger its power to satisfy and reduce hunger. The scent of molecules in fresh-cut strawberries travels directly to the limbic system of the brain (which is involved in emotional behavior). The molecules then activate the hypothalamus (the brain’s satiety center) and trick it into believing that you’ve eaten more than you have. Therefore, if you want to feel full faster, put some fresh-cut strawberries on your plate and sniff-sniff-sniff. (Alan R. Hirsch, MD, neurologist, psychiatrist, and director of The Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago)

Clear Stuffed Nose with Mints:
Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose fast.

Ease Achy Muscles From a Bout of the Flu: Mix 1 tablespoon horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply as a massage oil for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sooth Sore Throat:
Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and eat 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

Inspirational Quotes

“We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty, and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.”

"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."  ~ Bill Cosby

I attended your two day seminar at the American Board of Hypnotherapy Conference, and I want to thank you for such a wonderful two days. It has changed my life and my practice as well. Your book was absolutely wonderful. Until your seminar I hadn't found a roadmap for how to really study hypnosis and understand it.  It was the highlight of the convention for me and exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you for your presentation.  ~L. Rothschild, MFT

Letter from the Executive Director

Hi Everyone,

With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, it give us a time to reflect and think about what's really important, how precious and fragile life is, and to cherish the time we are given with the special people in our lives.

With this also being the time of year when we focus more on gratitude, I'd like to take the opportunity to tell you all just how much your friendship means to me. Even though we may not have seen much of each other this year (if at all), know that you are still in my thoughts and in my heart.

The gifts of family and friends are the riches in my life. Those precious moments and special memories I hold dear to my heart can never be replaced, neither by time nor all the wealth in the world.

Whatever you have planned this Thanksgiving, I hope you are sharing your time with friends, family, or someone who gives meaning to your life. Thank you for touching mine.

To Your Success,

Marla Brucker, DCH, R.HA
