Boost Your Mood Naturally: 

Low levels of the powerful neurotransmitter serotonin have been linked to depression, anxiety, irritability, and mental decline. Natural ways to raise serotonin levels: (a) aerobic exercise; (b) peaceful meditation 20 minutes daily; (c) replace negative thoughts and reactions with more positive ones; (d) exposure to sunlight or lamps that mimic its effects; (e) consuming probiotic foods such as pickles, sauerkraut, kefir, and yogurt with active cultures; (e) adding the spice turmeric to food; (f) eating foods high in omega-3 fatty acids such as cold water fish (including halibut, herring, and salmon), as well as flaxseed oil and walnuts. Just a Few Nuts a Day May Lower Disease Risks: 

Research found that people who ate nuts had a 29% lower risk for coronary heart disease, a 20% reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, and a 15% lower risk for cancer. Nut eaters also had a 52% lower risk for respiratory disease, a 39% lower risk for diabetes, and a 75% lower risk for infectious disease. Most risk reduction for all diseases occurred in people who ate just one ounce of nuts per day – about 2 dozen almonds or 15 walnut halves.


Little Known Uses for Salt:

You can remove dirt from spinach, arugula, and other greens by swirling them in a bowl of salt water. Also, get rid of excess soap bubbles when washing dishes or clothing by hand by sprinkling a pinch of salt into the soapy water. Clean a greasy pan by shaking salt into it before washing – the salt will absorb most of the grease.  If your iron gets sticky, sprinkle salt on a brown paper bag and run the hot iron over it to remove the buildup.  Finally, prevent frost from forming on the inside of windows by rubbing them with a sponge dipped in salted water. Letter from the Executive Director

Hi Everyone,

When my kids were young, I had crossed out one word from all the dictionaries in our house. Can you guess what word that would be? 


Many years ago when my oldest son Aaron turned 11, he received a hardback dictionary and thesaurus from his aunt for his birthday.  Aaron immediately asked me if he could cross out the word ‘failure’. Without hesitation, nodded, and said yes.


My sister was rightfully shocked by his question let alone my response.


I had always told my kids, “You never fail in any situation if you take the gifts of learning and wisdom from each situation and apply it to the next.”  Hence, Aaron crossed out that word.


What can you learn from realizing there is no failure?


Be failure is not an option!
