WA Elected Officials: Take the Pledge Vote NO on Fast Track and be our voice on trade!

Fast-track, otherwise known as 'trade promotion authority' is when Congress gives up its constitutional mandate to regulate commerce with foreign nations. Congress gives its power to unelected officials in the Executive Branch. Repeat-our elected officials give up the power we grant them to represent us in international trade deals. In the 16 times it has been used-what has come of it? NAFTA, CAFTA, Peru FTA, Colombia FTA...clearly the negotiators of the executive branch can not be trusted to represent the interests of the people.

Fast-track expired in 2007, and that is where we want it to remain! On May 11th we are kicking off our campaign to get our elected officials to take the pledge!:
Vote NO on Fast-track
& Represent Eaters, Workers, Communities & Real 'Persons' on Trade!

En Contra el TPP! Peru Gears up for the 17th TPP Round

Peru-FreeTradeImagePeruvian activists and allies throughout Latin America are readying for the 17th Round of the TPP negotiations May 15th-24th. They have invited parliamentarians & members of Congress from governments throughout the TPP region, who are resisting the TPP, to come to Lima for actions and events. They are hosting a strategy session on Intellectual Property as well as public forums and a huge protest on May 17th calling out the TPP as a policy of 'dis-integration' of Latin American economic and social solidarity. TPP May Days of Action worldwide are in solidarity with Peruvian trade justice activists.

Trade Justice in Action

Bangaldeshi garment worker activists Kalpona & Sumi are still in all of our hearts and minds for their strength, courage and resistance in the face of multi-national corporations who continue to exploit their families and communities for profit.

We the WFTC, joined by our many allies throughout WA State, are even more resolved to work towards a SweatFree Procurement policy for WA in 2013 and to never forget who is at the other end of the supply chain making the things that we wear and use everyday.

Here is some coverage of Sumi & Kalpona's time in the Pacific NW:
