On Saturday in North Dakota, security guards from G4S, an international security firm (with Southern California offices in Los Angeles, Torrance and Westlake Village) working for the Dakota Access pipeline company attacked Native Americans with trained dogs and pepper spray (mace) as they resisted the $3.8 billion pipeline’s construction on dozens of tribal sacred sites including a burial ground.

On Sunday, more than 500 people marched back to the construction site (above) and held a prayer, mourning the destruction of their ancestors’ graves.

Yesterday, a federal judge in Washington, D.C. decided to grant a temporary restraining order to halt temporarily further construction of the Dakota Access pipeline in the area near the Standing Rock Sioux Nation.

Guards sprayed mace directly into people’s faces and released dogs without warning on the actively demonstrating, unarmed protectors. At least 6 people were bitten, including a pregnant woman and a young girl who was taken to the hospital in Ft. Yates in stable condition. At no point did the security guards provide any request to leave or verbal warning, nor did they provide identification.

SoCal 350, in cooperation with AIMSoCal (American Indian Movement), INMLA (Idle No More Los Angeles), and other social justice groups, want to show solidarity with those fighting to protect their land and water from the Dakota Access Pipeline. A press conference, demonstration and prayer are planned at the Mid-City Los Angeles office of G4S.
