Greetings from Davies Manor Plantation! 

In our May newsletter, we have
pictures from the Shelby County History Festival held in early April. We also have information about our current and upcoming exhibits. Scroll all the way down for a list of upcoming events!

Shelby County History Festival

On Sunday April 3rd, Davies Manor hosted the Shelby County History Festival. Visitors were treated to carriage rides around the plantation grounds, house tours, a variety of information booths in Hillwood, a performance by a string quartet, and a living history presentation by 4th grade students from Faith Assembly School.

Apron exhibit closing date


Our current exhibit of vintage aprons from the Apron Museum will be on display through May 18th. Be sure to visit before they're gone!

Pioneer Wedding Exhibit

During the months of June and July, the house will be decorated for a pioneer wedding! The exhibit will include dresses on loan from the Woodruff-Fontaine House, traditional wedding cake, and information about 19th-century wedding customs and traditions.

Upcoming Events:

Teachers, mark your calendars! Our annual Teachers’ Luncheon will be held on Thursday, July 28th. More information to come!

• The Shelby County History Awards Dinner will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd at Hillwood. More information to come!

• On Sunday, August 8th, we will hold a Free Pieced Bird Quilt class at Hillwood for $20 per person. The rain date is August 14th. More information to follow!

• During the month of August, we will hold a tomato tasting. Join us in sampling a variety of tomatoes, tomato dishes, and all things tomato!

• Davies Manor will host a reenactment of the skirmish of Morning Sun on September 10th and 11th. If you would like to volunteer or support this event with a financial contribution to Davies Manor, please call Nancy McDonough at 901-386-0715 or email


The Mission of the Davies Manor Association, Inc. is to preserve and enhance Davies Manor Plantation as a portrayal of early Shelby County farm life for the education and enjoyment of visitors.
