Greetings!
The month of January has been very productive with a number of activities being undertaken in various projects. The highlight has been the visit of Ms. Marylaure Crettaz, Head, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Dr. Shirish Sinha, Deputy Director, SDC to Siliguri city under the CapaCITIES project. The three-day visit focused on understanding the progress of project activities. It also included visits to project sites, meetings with the officials of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), inauguration of the air quality monitoring machines, and a public meeting.
Under the INTERACT-Bio Project, supported by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), a visit was made to Panaji to conduct an extensive ground truthing exercise as part of the natural asset mapping of the city. Discussions were also held with the Goa State Biodiversity Board and Goa Foundation about issues related to biodiversity conservation in the state. Natural Asset Maps have been prepared for both Kochi and Panaji, and also initiated for Mangaluru.
As part of the Urban Nexus project, supported by The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), a technical workshop on Vacuum Sewer was conducted in Rajkot, Gujarat by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC). The workshop involved training which focused on technical, financial, monitoring and evaluation aspects of the technology.
We have also started on ground activities under the PROMISE project in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The Primary surveys were conducted to understand the views of the residents with regard to the status of sewerage sector in the selected ward.
