ICLEI South Asia Participates in the Global Urban Dialogue at ICLEI World Congress 2018ICLEI South Asia participated in the ICLEI World Congress 2018, held in Montreal, Canada, where over 1,000 people and 120 political leaders from 177 cities and regions gathered to discuss sustainable urban development. ICLEI South Asia was part of various sessions focusing on local actions on SDG implementation, climate adaptation and gender, healthy cities, universal access to water, vertical integration of urban nexus and sustainable urban mobility. Exposure Visit for Solapur Rural Core TeamAn exposure visit was conducted for the administrative and elected representatives of TaleHipparga, Ekrukh and Haglur villages and the Agriculture Officer for Integrated Watershed Management Program from the office of the District Collector in Solapur, Maharashtra. The visit was organised under the Integrated Rural Urban Water Management for Climate based Adaptations in Indian cities (IAdapt) project which is funded by International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The participants, along with ICLEI South Asia team, visited BibiDarfal and Wadala villages to understand the work done by the participatory approach of villagers to solve their water issues. Coimbatore, Siliguri Celebrate World Environment Day
|
Solid Waste Quantification and Characterisation in SiliguriOn the occasion of World Environment Day, the solid waste pilot initiative on zero waste under the SDC supported CapaCITIES Project was launched in ward 2 of Siliguri by the Hon’ble Mayor, in the presence of Deputy Mayor, Member Mayor in Council (Conservancy and Vehicles) and the Ward Councilor. This initiative aims to ensure collection of household level segregated waste, treatment and disposal of the dry and wet waste appropriately to ensure that minimal waste reaches the dumpsite. ICLEI South Asia, with support from Siliguri Municipal Corporation, carried out quantification and characterisation of the waste from the pilot wards. Read more |

AIIB's Infrastructure Plans in Asian Cities Gets ICLEI South Asia's SupportICLEI South Asia, along with ICLEI East Asia, is supporting Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in its infrastructure plans for Asian cities for which the 3rd Annual Meeting was organised in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The theme for this year’s meeting was Mobilising Finance for Infrastructure: Innovation and Collaboration. The event brought together leaders from various levels of governments, civil society organisations, partner institutions, and AIIB members to have a dialogue on creating a sustainable future through sound infrastructure investment. It was an opportunity for the participants to share knowledge and recommendations on how to address Asia’s infrastructure gap in a sustainable and equitable way. |
Rajkot City Discusses Climate Resilient City Action PlanStakeholders in Rajkot, Gujarat discussed the Climate Resilient City Action Plan (CRCAP) 2018-2023 for Rajkot, prepared through the CapaCITIES project. Rajkot Municipal Corporation officials, experts, policy makers, academic institutions and various stakeholders reviewed the CRCAP, and deliberated on the several interventions included in the plan. An overview of the CRCAP 2018-2023 was given by the CapaCITIES team. Around 50 people from diverse backgrounds took part in the group discussions and provided their views on CRCAP interventions. Ludhiana Witnesses Onsite Demonstration for Improving Traffic Conditions
|
Pilot Implementation in Varanasi under Development of Holistic Waste Management StrategyICLEI South Asia, with support from the United Nations Environment Programme, has successfully implemented a pilot project demonstrating holistic waste management approach in ward 21 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Extensive awareness generation, sensitisation and training of municipal sanitary workers by Swachh Sewaks, over a period of five months, have led to a visible change in the waste management practices in the ward. It is envisaged that the ‘pilot ward’ can act as a ‘torch-bearer’ to replicate the process in other wards. Read more |
