ICLEI South Asia E-News

 July 2016

Emani Kumar
Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI and Executive Director, ICLEI South Asia

July has been an eventful month for ICLEI in many ways. While ICLEI World Secretariat just ended up hosting Resilient Cities 2016 – Annual Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation, co-hosted with the City of Bonn, Germany, ICLEI South Asia organized the Asia LEDS Partnership Forum 2016 and a regional workshop, in collaboration with Vietnam Government, in Hanoi. Besides, an urban biodiversity workshop was also held this month, where we partnered with IUCN, in New Delhi.

Though events have kept us busy, the team, along with other partners, has also kicked off two new projects: CapaCITIES and Urban Nexus. This is also the month when India’s first civil society platform for GHG estimation and analysis – the GHG Platform India – has been launched. ICLEI South Asia is a partner for waste sector emission details and analysis for the project.

In a noteworthy development under our project where ICLEI is offering handholding support on mobility and built environment under the Smart City Mission, funded by Shakti Foundation, an intervention has helped in improving traffic circulation at a junction in Udaipur city of Rajasthan, and also received media coverage and support from stakeholders. We are now in the process of offering policy and design solutions for other transport-related elements in the city.

Meanwhile, ICLEI’s family continues to grow, with Bhagalpur and Patna from Bihar, India, becoming its newest Members.
