ICLEI South Asia E-News

                                        May-June 2015

Emani Kumar
Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI and Executive Director, ICLEI South Asia

Greetings readers!

The recently held World Summit – Climate and Territories has shown that cities, local governments, business and civil society are now asking nation states to take responsibility and to act appropriately. Around 800 participants who attended the Summit have cemented their message for COP21 in Paris at the end of the year: cities and regions around the world are ready and on track to meet the challenges of climate change and commit our societies to a low-carbon resilient path that will keep global temperatures under a 2°C increase.

ICLEI South Asia is working hard towards building capacity of the local city officials and the public at large for them to be able to take the reins of their city in their own hands. Proper guidance and support can work wonders for the city and its people, this E-newsletter brings this to the forefront. ICLEI South Asia has also been selected as an anchor city, with partners, for 3 cities in India under the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India’s National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY). Read on to know more about what’s happening at ICLEI South Asia and our cities.

Happy reading!
