Dairy & Biogas Bill Signed by Governor Inslee
The signing of today's House Bill No.1154, by WA Governor, Jay Inslee, was a reason for celebration at The Climate Trust's headquarters in Portland, OR. Proving itself a friend of the dairy and clean energy industries, The Trust initiated this bill late last year in order to clear up an ownership conflict between RECs and offsets in WA's Renewable Portfolio Standard. The bill allows biogas projects to earn revenue for their clean energy benefits AND for reducing the carbon impact from producing dairy products—two separate and valuable commodities.

"The Trust applauds Gov. Inslee and Washington legislators for taking action on an issue of great importance for the clean energy sector," said The Climate Trust's Director of Programs, Sheldon Zakreski. "The result is a bill that is clearly beneficial for rural economic development."

"The passage of this bill would not have been possible without the crucial support of partners, WA State Dairy Federation and NW Energy Coalition," said Zakreski. "We're gratified by the outcome of this collaboration and confident it will provide a valuable framework for future projects in both WA and OR."
