Giving Can Be Twice As Nice

lemonade_signYou may have been one of many kids who set up a lemonade stand during your summer break to make a little money for – well, whatever it is that kids need money for. Recently however, I met two young people who set up a stand to raise money for charity.  Benico and Adela crafted a lemonade stand to help support Brighter Beginnings’ Adopt-A-Family (AAF) program.  more


The PAPAS Team

PAPASteamFour very talented individuals recently joined the staff of Brighter Beginnings to form the “PAPAS team”.  Brighter Beginnings, in partnership with Rubicon Programs, Inc. and other partnering organizations, is gearing up to serve 150 parents who are soon to be released on probation from West County Detention facility or are currently on parole at two residential drug treatment programs.  more


Dads in the Park

dad-wearing-bjornBrighter Beginnings recently received generous funding from the Stewardship Council and the Foundation for Youth Investment to develop a “Dads in the Park” Program (DPP).  The aim of this new program is to help connect at-risk and low-income teen fathers and their children to the outdoors through structured program activities that increase positive parenting, physical activity, effective approaches to problem solving and goal setting, sense of community, and healthy living while establishing potentially life-long patterns of using our parks. more


Looking for a meaningful and fun volunteer experience?

VITABrighter Beginnings' VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) program is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us for the 2013 tax season.VITA is the largest anti-poverty program in the country, providing free tax preparation to any Contra Costa or Alameda County resident earning less than $57,000.  more
