Verdi’s Shakespearean masterpiece is back at the Met, starring a “chilling and touching” Johan Botha (Huffington Post) in the title role. Renée Fleming as Desdemona is “sublime” and “knows exactly how to spin the gentle lines of the ‘Willow Song’ and ‘Ave Maria’ so that they softly fill the hall” (New York Times). Falk Struckmann is “excellent throughout as Iago…blessed with a luxuriant baritone that commands attention” (Huffington Post). Semyon Bychkov conducts.

Falstaff This Weekend!

Falstaff 5x7 copy

Opera Idaho is proud to open our 2012-2013 season with Verdi's final opera, Falstaff, Verdi’s last opera, and only the second of his 26 operas to be a comedy. Falstaff’s attempts to woo two women of his town in order to obtain money from their husbands tumbles into a comedic mess.

This production features an all-star cast including Peter Castaldi in his Opera Idaho debut as Falstaff, and local singers Jason Detwiler as Ford, Leslie Mauldin as Alice, and Tiffany Calás as Meg. Ben Bunsold returns to Idaho as Fenton, while Elizabeth Ashantiva makes her debut in a professional role as Nannetta. Conductor Steve Crawford & Director David Cox will be returning to Boise and for the first time team-up for this classical comedy.  This opera is not to be missed!

Thank You All for Joining Us for Delightful Operatini

000_4044000_4052 2

Thursday, October 18, 2012 we hosted Operatini-A Smooth Finish, at Beside Bardenay.  It was a lot of fun, not to mention a huge success, and we are eagerly awaiting the next one.

Mixologist Brian Livesay's special martini was absolutely delicious.  For those of you who missed it, Livesay created his martini based on Falstaff's line, "Da fallo nasce fallo e allor" (One sin leads to another).  The martini was aptly named, because with these delicious creations, one could definitely lead to another and another and another!

Livesay was
kind enough to share the recipe with us for everyone to enjoy.  We look forward to seeing you at the next event!

The Da Fallo Martini
1 and 1/2 oz cognac
1/2 oz Cabernet
1/4 oz Chambord
Splash Luxardo,
Squeeze lime and dash simple syrup
