TAG Giving Day Set for November 18th with $20,000 Fundraising Goal

donationFrom TAG PTSA Fundraising:
The recognition that TAG has received nationally and locally affirms what we know makes our school special--the caliber of TAG students, the excellence of the TAG faculty, and the encouragement and support of  parents and guardians. To keep TAG strong, we need to join together to raise funds for unmet needs at the school. Rather than ask families to buy or sell unneeded or unwanted items, we simply ask you to make a financial donation. We call it our Painless Fundraiser. Our goal again this year is to raise $20,000.

We have set Tuesday, November 18th as TAG Giving Day in order to provide an opportunity for TAG families to support the school through a financial donation, either by writing a check or making an online donation at on or before this date. We're picking one date in time to help us all remember to make a financial commitment to the school.

Each TAG family will receive a letter (if you have not already) at the home address on record asking for participation in the Painless Fundraiser. We would love each TAG family to participate and encourage you to give generously.

Next Steps: Make a personal commitment to financially support TAG Magnet through this fundraiser. Make checks payable to TAG PTSA; send them to the TAG office addressed to TAG PTSA Painless Fundraiser; an envelope was provided in your letter. Or go online to and click on the following tabs: Parents > Donate > PTSA Painless Fundraiser.

Please note that all donations are tax-deductible. Your employer may be willing to match the donation, so please ask. If you have friends or family that might be willing to contribute, please ask for their support as well.

PTSA General Meeting on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30 pm

low-interest-student-loans 2The TAG Counseling Office has arranged for a special presentation at the PTSA General Meeting on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30.

Financial Aid for College: Tips and Info from a Director of Financial Aid
The program will feature a presentation by Ms. Maria Ramos, Director of Financial Aid for the Texas A&M University at Commerce. Learn about the factors that financial aid officers use in making their award decisions. You will also get an overview of the types of college financial aid that exist, as well as the application process to qualify for aid. This presentation is a must for all high school grade levels. It's never too early to identify funding resources for college. Ms. Ramos will provide a unique perspective, given her 20-plus years of experience in the field of college financial aid. She began her career in financial aid right out of college and was the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at University of Illinois Medical Center for six years. After moving to Dallas, she was the Financial Aid Director for Richland College for eight years and was Director of Financial Aid at University of Texas at Dallas for twelve years. She has been at Texas A&M Commerce since 2010.

Who Knew? TAG Wins Recycling Award!

TAG was one of three schools in Dallas ISD awarded $1,000 for its recycling efforts last May! Dallas ISD's The Hub featured an article on November 4th where the three schools are mentioned. Click here to read the article.

TAG student organizations such as SAGA (Students Against Global Abuse) and YGI (Youth for Global Improvement), which have since merged into YAGA (Youth Against Global Abuse), helped to improve awareness about recycling at TAG last year, and everyone pitched in.

Dallas ISD's Waste Management Specialist Aaron Rankin remarked that recycling in schools represents a huge opportunity: Just by throwing items into a recycling bin, they are being kept out of landfills, thereby saving oil, electricity, and natural resources like trees.

TAG Students Volunteered at Local Church's Fall Harvest Carnival

TAG Students Give the Gift of Time at Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church Fall Harvest Carnival
One of the most generous gifts a person can give is that of time and personal attention. TAG students Andres Alameda, Carson Bolding, Xavier Camarillo, Declan Devine, Ilsa Dontes, Avery Johnson-Bishop, Riley Osborn, Maya Reddi, Henry Roseman, and Isabella Sanchez gave this gift by volunteering at Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church's Fall Harvest Carnival. The Festival was on Halloween Night at The Eloise Lundy Recreation Center and Park. The festival featured ring toss, potato sack races, face painting, balloon animals, and so much more. The TAG students passed out treats, helped supervise games, and distributed raffle tickets. The evening ended with a performance by the Cassalino Circus. TAG parent Sharon Mansfield who helped organize the TAG volunteers stated, "This is the most fun I've had on Halloween in a long time. I hope this is the beginning of new tradition. Our TAG students did a great job and their help was much appreciated." Thanks so much to Tyronda Moore, church secretary, for organizing the event, and to Yolanda Alameda, Valerie Dontes, and Amy Roseman for driving the students to the event, and to Chris and Brent Bolding for hosting a post carnival party at their home.

New TAG Website!

taglogoWe're really excited about the work that has been done to launch the school's new website. Work is still being finalized on several pages of the new site, as well as on the integration of this main site with the existing PTSA website. Last year, the PTSA set aside funds to hire an outside firm, Insite, to assist with the development of a new comprehensive website. We extend our thanks to Jim Kipp, Rhonda Hutchison, Cindi Fitzgerald, Siobhan Farr, Veronica Bell, Alfonso Correa, and Ben Mackey for their help in the development. As with most websites, it is growing and changing daily, so please visit often for all of the latest and greatest information about TAG! Here is the link to the URL:
