Yearbook Photos This Week!

By now, students will have received hard copies of the order form at school, but the order form/brochure is available to print (click here for the front of the form  and here for the back of the form) in case some of those brochures do not make it home to the parents.

Thanks to Ms. Greer for sponsoring Yearbook and for information/details that students and their families need to know:

  • Seniors and Freshmen will take their pictures on Tuesday, October 21.
  • Juniors and Sophomores will take their pictures on Wednesday, October 22.
  • The backdrop for the pictures will be light gray, so the students should avoid wearing that color.

TAG YAGA (Youth Against Global Abuse) Students Volunteered at Dallas Komen Race for the Cure

TAG YAGA at Komen Race for the Cure 2 (2) 2

Some members of YAGA (Youth Against Global Abuse) volunteered at Saturday's Dallas Komen Race for the Cure. The volunteers (Isaiah Turner, Abby Springs, Delta Smith, Kathleen Dahlgreen, and Claire Eckardt) handed out water and cheered on runners and walkers participating in the event.  The funds raised by the race will be used in helping local health facilities in detecting, screening, and treating women with breast cancer. Thanks to these fab 5 freshmen for volunteering!! Its not too late to join YAGA (a merger between SAGA (Students Against Global Abuse) and YGI(Youth Global Initiative). The next club meeting is Mon. Oct. 27 during C lunch in Ms. Dewberry's room.

Thanks to Ms. Dewberry for sponsoring the club and for providing photos and information.

New TAG Website!

taglogoWe're really excited about the work that has been done to launch the school's new website. Work is still being finalized on several pages of the new site, as well as on the integration of this main site with the existing PTSA website. Last year, the PTSA set aside funds to hire an outside firm, Insite, to assist with the development of a new comprehensive website. We extend our thanks to Jim Kipp, Rhonda Hutchison, Cindi Fitzgerald, Siobhan Farr, Veronica Bell, Alfonso Correa, and Ben Mackey for their help in the development. As with most websites, it is growing and changing daily, so please visit often for all of the latest and greatest information about TAG! Here is the link to the URL:

Interesting Reading!

books 2Here are several recent short articles that may be of interest to TAG parents and students. Enjoy!

Here is a New York Times (10/17/14) article about the stress of saving for college and the implications for financial aid. (Thanks to former TAG parent and PTSA President Jim Kipp for sending the link). Click here to read.

This is a re-run of an article (from 9/4/14 issue of this newsletter) from Atlantic Monthly (6/30/14) that was suggested reading by Mr. Mackey. It provides an interesting perspective about the college admissions process. Click here to read.

Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church has invited the TAG family to its Fall Harvest Festival on Friday, October 31st from 6:00-8:00 pm. The church is a vital member of the Townview neighborhood and participated in TREK this year. The Festival runs from 6-8 p.m. It will feature food, games, face painting, and balloon animals, as well as an appearance by the Casalino Circus. Volunteers are needed to staff booths and other activities. Students who volunteer can receive credit toward their community service requirement (click here for the student community service form to bring--or copies are available in the TAG office). The church is located near the levee in the neighborhood adjacent to Townview at 1101 Reverend CBT Smith Street. Most of the festival's activities will take place at nearby Eloise Lundy Recreation Center and park (1228 Sabine St). Please contact Sharon Mansfield at jrdevine@flash.net if you are interested.
