TDL offers Copyright Seminar on December 13 in Austin

On Thursday, December 13th, the Texas Digital Library will offer two half-day Copyright Seminars led by recognized experts on copyright from within the TDL membership: Georgia Harper, Scholarly Communications Advisor at UT Libraries and Gail Clement, Head of Digital Services and Scholarly Communication at Texas A&M University Libraries.

We invite TDL members to register for one or both of the seminars, which will be held in Room 1.124 at the Perry-Castañeda Library on the UT Austin campus. The seminars are free to attend for any TDL member, but space is limited.

Plaza: Dialogues in Language and Literature
TDL technical staff have been working for the past month to upgrade all hosted online journals to the latest version of Open Journal Systems software.

During the upgrade process, TDL is making several additional changes to the way the journal service is configured that will result in a significantly better experience for journal managers, readers, and other users.

Staff updates: Dylan Maltby joins TDL Helpdesk, open positions on technical teams

AnnouncementDylan Maltby, a first-year graduate student at the UT School of Information, joined the TDL team in October. Dylan will be working with Nicholas Mitchell to provide first-line technical support through the TDL Helpdesk. Dylan has a strong background in customer service, and the TDL is excited to welcome his skills and enthusiasm to the team.

The TDL has also posted three open positions on its technical teams: 2 positions in software development and 1 in systems administration. The jobs are posted through the UT Austin job board.
Rollout of Vireo 1.8 for TDL members: An update

The TDL has begun to roll out staging versions of Vireo 1.8, while development for a future version of Vireo continues.

In September, the Vireo Development Team concluded active development of Vireo 1.8, a new version the Vireo Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Management System, and began deployment and testing of staging instances of the software for TDL members.

TDL Forum

 The Texas Digital Library invites members to attend the TDL Forum, a monthly conference call in which members can hear a brief presentation about the activities of the TDL staff and participate in a question-and-answer period.

The November Forum will be held on TUESDAY for this month only, to accommodate the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Education Opportunities

Copyright Seminar – December 13, 2012

  • A Copyright Seminar with experts Georgia K. Harper (Scholarly Communications Advisor at UT Libraries) and Gail Clement (Head of Digital Services and Scholarly Communication at Texas A&M Libraries) will take place December 13 in Austin. The full-day seminar will cover copyright issues related to digitized archival materials and born-digital scholarly communication.

  • November 7th – Open Conference Systems Training – UT Austin Libraries

TCDL 2013 - May 7-8 in Austin

The 2013 Texas Conference on Digital Libraries will be held May 7-8, 2013, in Austin, Texas. The conference will take place at the Radisson Hotel & Suites in downtown Austin.

Additional details, including a call for papers, will be coming soon.

Texas ETD Association Conference – February 28-March 1, 2013

The 2013 Texas ETD Association/US ETD Association Region III Conference will take place February 28-March 1 at Texas A&M University. The Texas ETD Association (TxETDA) provides a network of support for those working in the field of electronic theses and dissertations in the state of Texas.
