Puna Pono Alliance
Letting Puna be Puna

We really need your testimony this week!

There will be a special meeting of the Hawaii County Council this Tuesday October, 15 - 4:00pm  for the first reading of Bill 113 draft 2, No GMO.

On Wednesday October 16, 9am the Council will have its second reading of Bill 129, No Fracking in Hawaii County.  We need a huge turnout of testimony for this bill.

This link has some excellent talking points you may find helpful to prepare your testimony:

The Council will be meeting in Kona for these meetings. After some strong lobbying over the past month by members of Puna Pono Alliance, the County has agreed to install skype in the Pahoa Neighborhood Center (Community Center) until the new Pahoa office is finished. It is important that we send a strong message to the County that we must have this service in Pahoa. To achieve this we are asking for a big turn out at the Community Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, please be there!

Giving testimony at Hawaii County Council may be done using the following methods:

Video Public Testimony:
Those submitting video testimony may email a complete web address (url) to before 12:00 noon the day before.

Global Frackdown 2

Please join Puna Pono Alliance, Malu 'Aina, Occupy Hilo, Paradise Action Women's Alliance for a sign waving rally in solidarity with the Global Frackdown 2 from 12p-2p Saturday, October 19th on the highway in front of Walgreen's in Hilo. This is an aloha filled, peaceful, family friendly event. Bring your own sign or borrow one of ours and take part in a worldwide action against fracking.

Mission Statement: Fracking for oil and gas is inherently unsafe and the harms of this industry cannot be fully mitigated by regulation. We reject the multi-million dollar public relations campaign by big oil and gas companies and urge our local, state, and national officials to reject fracking. We stand united as a global movement in calling on governmental officials at all levels to pursue a renewable energy future and not allow fracking or any of the associated infrastructure in our communities or any communities. We are communities fighting fracking, frac sand mining, pipelines, compressor stations, LNG terminals, exports of natural gas, coal seam gas, coal bed methane and more. Fracking is not part of our vision for a clean energy future and should be banned.

Support the movement to ban fracking worldwide and celebrate Hawaii County's passing of Bill 129 which bans fracking here on Hawaii Island. Can you visualize a world without fracking? We can, and we HAVE by by using the authority of Home Rule. Hawaii County Council is currently debating a bill that would ban fracking and we expect it will pass at the next hearing on October 16th in Kona. However, our Governor has big plans for Hawaii and the energy landscape and is pushing to import LNG. We need to hold our line in the sand and say that we not only want fracking banned here in Hawaii, but everywhere in the world. We do not want will not accept the addition of LNG to our state's energy portfolio. It's time we demand some REAL clean energy solutions.
