RALLY AND SIGN-WAVING TO REQUEST FAIR FUNDING FOR STUDENTS IN PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS IN HAWAII

The CAN (Community Action Network) parent group of Hawaii Academy of Arts & Science Public Charter School (HAASPCS) is asking our community to send a strong message to our State legislature for equitable funding of charter schools by attending a rally and sign waving on Bayfront in Hilo, along the fence of the makai soccer fields, on Wednesday, January 15th, from 3pm – 5pm.

The purpose is to shout out, with media coverage, for the opening of the Hawaii State Legislative Session. This event welcomes all Hawaii Public Charter Schools and school of choice advocates. There will be a prep-party to develop creative slogans & signage January 14th, 2pm at HAAS main campus.

Now is the time to act. Our children deserve their fair share of funding for public education, for the basics that DOE students receive including SHELTER, FOOD AND TRANSPORTATION so learning can happen!

Local Rallies will also happen the week of January 26 – February 1 to further highlight the value of School Choice – in Pahoa, Monday, January 27 at 3pm in front of the Malama Marketplace Center.

Visit our website punapono.com for information about Fracking (Enhanced Geothermal), Geothermal, making testimony at the Senate, House, and County, etc...it's a great resource!

We sometimes ask for people to come out and support us with testimony, especially when important legislation is being passed. This can be done in person, in writing, by email or video.
If you have never given testimony but would like to, we can guide you in this process. It's an empowering thing to do and an action that is of immense value when it comes to passing legislation. When the 'we the people speak' en masse, the politicians listen!

Visit the Puna Pono Alliance booth at Maku''u Market on Sundays, and pick up information and a T shirt. Talk to your neighbors, work colleagues, family and friends about the future you want for Puna.

If you have an organization that you are a part of and would like to have PPA do a presentation please email barb@punapono.com with details.

If you want to get involved, there are lots of ways to help. Come to the Tuesday Meeting at HAAS, 15-1397 Homestead Road, Pahoa, at 4.30pm and get involved.
If you have a skill that would be useful, have questions, or want information, please contact the secretary at barb@punapono.com or 808 339 4344.
