MLA is fortunate to have an incredible group of families who come together to help our teachers and students thrive. Thank you to everyone who continues to show up for our school! We invite all incoming families to join our volunteer efforts as well!
We need volunteers to help in the following areas:
- Registration Day
- The MLA office needs help during registration from 10-3 on August 2nd, 3rd, 6th,7th and 8th. Volunteers will help provide forms, answer questions, etc.. Any amount of time, is helpful!
- Welcome Day
(August 11th 10- 2pm)
- Community Service Days
on Saturdays throughout the year. Keep an eye on the MLA calendar.
- Kinder classrooms need volunteers the first week
of school to help with children as they separate. Volunteers would not volunteer in their child’s classroom. 8:30-9am, https://docs.google.com/document/d/16J5EukyBQoE5EWcVgy8nixZDMY4C6NXB9vA4mueR_4Y/edit?ts=5b59147e
- The safety patro
l needs parents daily from 8:20-8:40 to put cones away and help kids to class.
- Power Hour
– Join other MLA parents on Wednesday mornings (every other week) to assist teachers and the office with small tasks. Stay for as long as you can! The first one will be August 15th, 8:35am.
Save the date: Volunteer Information Session on August 28th from 6 – 7pm in the cafeteria.
Lastly, OUSD requires that all volunteers (who will be alone with kids, or driving kids in their cars) be fingerprinted (as well as have a TB test). We realize that this is a burden for some of you and understand that for even more of you, you are not comfortable being fingerprinted. However, as a school, we cannot get around these requirements.
Register with the Oakland Public Schools Fund, http://www.oaklandedfund.org
In order to be fingerprinted each person will need a valid U.S. government or state ID. Foreign ID’s, consulate cards or foreign passports cannot be accepted. Social security numbers are not needed.
