May 2013 E-Newsletter

E-Newsletter for the Friends of Paz

johnthumb 2As many of you know, on the morning of March 27th 2013 around 6:30 am, a fire broke out at Paz de Cristo behind the kitchen.  This put us into crisis management mode, trying to work out how to feed our guests.  Our friends at RigaTony’s stepped up that first night to serve dinner. Then, we were able to secure enough sandwiches and subs for the next night’s meal. From there, we reached out to other area restaurants, and our meal sponsors for support. The response was overwhelming!  Since we had no ability to heat the food or to clean up after the meals we asked the restaurants and sponsors to provide a hot meal and to serve in disposable containers.  Beginning on March 27th through May 12th, we were able to fill every night with a complete meal for 200 of our guests!!  How thrilled we were to be able to reassure our guests that our mission of providing food for the hungry would continue.

Prayers for Paz are being  answered on a daily basis, whether it be a need for more items for our food boxes,  a side to complete a meal or that our guests never go hungry.  We witness this so often it was no wonder to us that our awesome community came together to keep the dining room open every night since the fire.

We at Paz de Cristo cannot thank you all enough.  To each and every volunteer who continued to serve with no kitchen access, Thank You!  To each and every restaurant who donated a meal, part of a meal, or discounted a meal, Thank You! To all of our faith and community partners who came together to prepare or purchase a meal, Thank You!  To every individual who got the word out that we needed help, Thank You!

Please recognize ALL who provided meals, and thank them the next time you eat at their restaurants, visit their business, or attend service at their church.

Huge Thank You to All!!

Our Mission
mission 2
Paz de Cristo, we believe everyone is a child of God and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Paz de Cristo serves those in need with a daily meal service, food boxes and empowerment programs. We are committed to our community and through the collaboration with many dedicated volunteers-- including diverse faith communities--we feed the hungry and help provide resources for those seeking the basic necessities of life. Paz also provides community referrals to housing and medical care, and offers preparation for meaningful work.
Donating to Paz de Cristo is easy and painless. With a new financial program adopted by Paz de Cristo, donations and recurring donations are easier than ever.  Ways to donate come in various forms and sizes. A generous donation of food to a small kids toy are two types of donations accepted by Paz. You can donate through online giving, drop off food or clothing, you can also volunteer to serve meals or give out food boxes. Your generous donations are what keeps Paz de Cristo open to the working poor.
