OPEN CHEER PRACTICE
Time to get ready for CHEER TRYOUTS! Open practice every Wednesday from 4-6pm in the indoor/outdoor playroom (by the metal shop). Come perfect your skills or learn new skills before tryouts! Everyone who is interested in trying out for the 2016-17 season is welcome to attend! Please share with your friends!
 
NEHS CHEER TRYOUTS! 
Cheer tryouts are May 3, 4, & 5, from 4-6pm in the indoor/outdoor playroom. Must attend all 3 days. No experience necessary. Wear athletic clothing & bring water!
 
NORTH NIGHT AT THE SWEDE!
Calling all North Eugene, Kelly, Madison, Howard, Yujin Gakuen, Corridor, Spring Creek, Awbrey Park, and River Road families!  Come join the fun at North Eugene High School for a night of baseball, snacks and fun!  Wear your school shirt/colors, enter a free raffle to throw out the first pitch, free popcorn, free ice cream, inflatables, run the bases at the end of the game, photos on the pitcher’s mound and food concessions.  Tuesday, May 3.  Game time is 5pm with raffle beginning at 4:45.

DRIVER ED SUMMER 2016

LANE COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S DIESEL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM PRESENTS...DIESEL DAYS!!
Friday & Saturday May 13 & 14th, 9am-3pm.  Enjoy a tour of the Diesel Technology Program and experience the power of highway trucks and heavy equipment. Put your hands on the heart of a diesel engine, transmission and brake system. Find out how to join the LCC Diesel Program and start a career as a Diesel Technician. This is a FREE event, no registration required!
 
WOMEN IN TRADES CAREER FAIR
Meet employers, learn about training opportunities, attend hands on workshops, and explore a career in the trades.  Free admission and parking, fess shuttle from the Gateway Transit Center, free on-site childcare.  Saturday, May 14th 9am-3pm.  For more info: tradeswomen.net

JUNIOR/SENIOR PARENTS NEEDED FOR THE 2016 GRAD PARTY
Can you be a chaperone at the grad party? We are looking for parents who are willing to be involved with the senior party after graduation June 11th from 10pm-3am at International Fitness. This is a parent sponsored event and we do not receive any help from the school. Adults needed for: casino dealers, pool/locker room attendants, kitchen help, door monitors, bag check/prize monitors etc. If you can help even for a portion of the time it would be a big help! DRUG & ALCOLHOL FREE GRAD PARTY-
This event will be held June 11th directly after graduation at International Fitness on Commerce St. Seniors will enjoy many prizes including CASH!! Activities include:  Casino games, swimming, cash cube, henna, a segway course, bubble soccer, chair massage, Dutch Bros., inflatable wreckingball and photo bus. Students can enjoy a brief social time and photo op with friends and family after graduation. Buses will begin loading in the parking lot at NE at 10pm.  Buses will return back to NE by 3am. And the best part of this year’s event.....IT’S FREE! Fill out your waiver/intent to attend form by May 26th and the event is absolutely free!!! Forms will be available starting April 18th and need to be returned by May 26th to receive the free offer.  Forms received after May 26th will require a $5 fee.  Forms can be picked up and turned in to the main office.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AT RIVER ROAD ELEMENTARY
Camino del Rio/River Road Elementary School is looking for volunteers for their Fiesta! Friday, May 6th from 5pm-8:45pm.  50 volunteers are needed! Jobs include...
  • Work in the Booths such as the Fishing, the bouncy house, etc..
  • Working in the kitchen
  • Clean up 8pm-8:45pm

SUMMER CAMP VOLUNTEER COUNSELORS NEEDED at the SCIENCE FACTORY
Want to get kids EXCITED about science this summer?  There are nine weeks of camp from June 27 to August 26.
Volunteers may sign up for one week at a time for either a half day (20 hours a week) OR a full day (40 hours a week ).

Students who cannot commit to a full week can volunteer as an Exhibit Guide, a three hour shift in the morning or afternoon working directly with visitors or apart of the Outreach Team by helping to run activities at libraries and community cites around Lane County. These shifts are available all summer long on both weekdays and weekends. TEMPLE BETH ISRAEL'S CAMP CHAVERIM IS LOOKING FOR DAY CAMP COUNSELORS
Counselors do not have to be Jewish to apply!  Earn both Community Service Hours and $100.00 a week!!

COUNSELORS IN TRAINING NEEDED FOR YMCA SUMMER CAMPS
The Eugene Family YMCA needs Counselors in Training (CIT's). Take part in amazing activities with Y camp kids!  CIT's must be between the ages of 14-17.  Summer camps run from June 20th - September 1st.  Each camp session is one week long.  Campers range in age from 2 1/2 - entering 8th grade.

This program gives participants the opportunity to learn valuable leadership skills assisting staff and leading campers in having fun in their summer camp programs, all the while earning volunteer hours for school. If you are interested in being a CIT (Counselor in Training) stop by the College Career Center in Room 209 to pick up an application. Training Day for CIT's: Friday, June 17th!

These are the Cooperative Work Study Student job openings for students 16 and older in the upcoming 2016/2017 school year:

  • Awbrey Park Elementary – 1 position @ 1.75 hours a day

  • North Eugene High School Main Office – 1 position @ 1.75 hours a day
  • 4J Library Services – 1 position @ 2 hours a day
In order to apply for any of these positions, students should bring their resume and the position(s) they wish to apply for to either Debbie or Liz in the Career College Center in room 209.  After students turn in their resume, then Debbie and Liz will fax the resumes to the positions that the student wishes to apply for.  The school or 4J department supervisor will contact the student to set up an interview and once the interviews are completed, the supervisor will notify the student(s) whom was selected to fill the position.  Cooperative Work Study students earn $9.25 an hour, .5 elective credits each trimester and a P grade each trimester.  Please see Debbie or Liz if you have any questions about this process.
 
YOUTH FARMER POSITIONS AT FOOD FOR LANE COUNTY
The Youth Farm offers its participants:
  • Educational activities, field trips, and guest speakers on gardening, nutrition, personal finance, life skills, and career development
  • Training in marketing, customer service, leadership, and team work
  • Access to fresh, organic fruits and vegetables
  • The opportunity to serve their community by growing produce for families with emergency food needs
  • Healthy physical activity, adult mentoring and supervision
  • 15 hours of work per week at minimum wage
 
Participating in the Youth Farm is fun, fulfilling, and challenging!  Our expectations of participants are high; crew members make a commitment to show-up on time on their scheduled days ready to participate productively and in all kinds of weather.   The position also involves some heavy lifting, bending-over for extended periods, and doing repetitive physical activities. 
 
Food for Lane County has 12 youth positions open this year.  If you are between the ages of 15-19, who live in households that have incomes equal to or below 200% of the federal poverty level.  Households are automatically eligible if they have received SNAP benefits (Oregon Trail Card), TANF, SSI, or state general assistance in the past six months.  Also, youth who are on an IEP, in foster care, homeless, pregnant, or parenting are eligible, regardless of income.  Applications accepted until May 2nd. YOUNG WOMEN’S FIRE CAMP ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Are you a young woman interested in gaining confidence and leadership skills?  Would you like to learn what firefighting is all about?  Eugene Springfield Fire is hosting a FREE fire camp for high school aged young women. July 11-15, 2016.

The goals of the Young Women's Fire Camp are to build leadership and team skills, instill confidence in young women and providean opportunity to try firefighting through hands-on training.  Pick up an application from Liz or Debbie in the College Career Center in room 209 and submit it to:

Offered by Oregon State University
  • Phonics, Comprehension, Vocabulary, Study Skills, Speed Reading, and Love of Reading.
  • Classes and programs available for children as young as 4 years old, available through Adults, entering 12th grade, and college students.

$1000.00 4J MAPS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE BOUND STUDENTS GRADUATING IN JUNE 2016
Seniors, if you are the first person in your family to go to college then you should come to the Career College Center in room 209 to pick up the scholarship application today as it is due by Thursday, May 5th!
 
NORTH EUGENE HIGH SCHOOL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP                         $500
Open to high school seniors; parent or guardian must be a member of NEHS Booster Club in good standing as of JANUARY 1, 2016.  Eligible seniors submit the following: essay, 300 – 550 words, covering the topics: how extracurricular activities have made my high school career more rewarding; my goals in college; and how this scholarship will help me achieve those goals.  Do not include any specific identifying information. No name or other identification within the essay or on the essay page. Do not name the sport or activity in which you have been involved.  Two letter of recommendation are required from NEHS faculty members who are familiar with you, but the letters of recommendation must be addressed To Whom It May Concern, without naming the student or the activity.  Staple a Cover Page to your essay. On the cover page put your name, email address and a telephone number where you can be reached. DO NOT PUT ANY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION ON THE ESSAY PAGE.  Cover sheet, letters of recommendation and essay must be submitted to Liz Rommel, in the North Eugene College and Career Center, Room 209, no later than 3:00 p.m. on FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2016.

SANTA CLARA GRANGE #746 SCHOLARSHIP
Two Scholarships will be awarded.  Open to high school seniors, must be graduating from North Eugene or Willamette High School;  must be US citizen; planning to attend a 4-year college or university, or a junior or community college, or a trade school after high school graduation. Applicant must be a good student, and should show probability of success.  Paper application is available in the College/Career Center, Room 209.    DEADLINE: Application and all related materials must be submitted to Liz Rommel in the College/Career Center, Room 209, NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2016.

MARK A. FORESTER SCHOLARSHIP      $1,000
Open to any student who is currently enrolled in an accredited American university or college, or will be enrolled in the fall/summer of 2016.  Senior Airman Mark A. Forester was killed September 29, 2010, in Afghanistan while risking his life to save a fallen comrade. This scholarship is being awarded to honor his memory.  Write a 300-500 word essay explaining how you go about honoring America’s military heroes.  Send the essay as part of the body of your email, no attachments please, with your full name, school you will be attending, and contact information to scholarship@rockymountainmattress.com
DEADLINE: Emailed essay must be submitted no later than MIDNIGHT, JUNE 1, 2016.

ACACIA FRATERNITY MEN’S LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP            Up to $1,500
Open to high school seniors, males only, who will be attending OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY in the fall of 2016.  Applicants are not obligated to join Acacia Fraternity or any other fraternity.  Application is available online at http://groups.oregonstate.edu/acacia/

HORATIO ALGER CAREER AND TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP        Up to $2,500

ABBOTT AND FENNER SCHOLARSHIP $1,000
Open to high school juniors and seniors who will be enrolled in postsecondary institution (college, university, community college, vocational/technical school); must be at least 16 years of age.  To apply for this scholarship, you will need to write an essay on the topic: Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals.

BIG SUN SCHOLARSHIP $500
Open to high school seniors, student athlete, attending college in the fall of 2016  Submit an essay on the topic: How did your participation in sports during your high school years influence you? Has your participation influenced your career goals? Has your participation influenced how you relate to your family?  Essays must be submitted online at athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com
DEADLINE: JUNE 17, 2016.

AES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP        $500
Open to high school seniors and juniors.  Does not require the applicant to take engineering courses to be eligible.  Submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words on the topic: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?  Submit your essay to: scholarships@aesengineers.com  For more information, visit the AES website at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm  There is no application packet for this award.  Please do not submit a résumé.  Be sure to include your full name as well as the name of the school you are currently attending in 2015-2016, and your plans for 2016-2017.  DEADLINE: OCTOBER 6, 2016.
