"Reawakening" installed in New Orleans

Wesley was invited by Sculpture for New Orleans to place his

monumental sculpture "Reawakening". It is on Poydras Street just down from the Superdome and was installed prior to the Superbowl.

"This composition represents my waking up to the world of

figurative sculpture. For over 13 years I worked in the film

industry, and was struggling to find a direction for my personal

work. This sculpture is a metaphor for me finding the path, and represents my artistic reawakening.

I thought it was an appropriate piece for New Orleans, as both the city and the art scene have

flourished and reinvented itself post Katrina. I chose to install the red variation of this piece to express the juxtaposition of the old with the new, a quality I find synonymous with New Orleans."

Wesley started off 2013 by partnering with interior designer Lynn Monday on a private commission. It was a surprise birthday gift a woman in Cashiers gave to her husband. The couple celebrated his birthday by unveiling the sculpture with a champagne toast in the studio. It is a large, high relief sculpture celebrating the majesty of the wildlife and setting of the mountains of Western North Carolina. "Majesty" now resides in their home and accentuates the beautiful entrance.

"Nebraska State Capital"

In June of 2013, Wesley responded to a Call to Artists for a portrait of Alvin Saunders Johnson for the Nebraska State Capital. Mr. Johnson was a Nebraska native who gained national and international recognition as an educator, humanitarian, economist, writer, social activist, and editor.  Wesley was selected as a finalist, interviewed, and was chosen as the sculptor. A maquette was started in early August and we ended the year with a road trip to Lincoln, Nebraska to get approval of the full-sized clay model. The 1 1/3 scale portrait is currently at Inferno Art Foundry being cast in bronze and will be unveiled in the Nebraska State Capital during a ceremony in May of 2014.

New Release

“This sculpture is an exploration of the beauty of the feminine form. It alludes to my development as an artist, the title implying a waking up or stirring as in the direction of my work but is also a play on words to implicate a sexual arousal. It is a companion piece to “Reawakening” that speaks of the duality of man and woman."

New Gallery Representation

Wesley is proud to have signed with a new gallery in North Miami, Florida. Sirona Fine Art, directed by Timothy Smith, a 23 year veteran of the NYC art world, opened its doors in December of 2013. Wesley and Odyssey drove to the gallery carrying nine pieces of sculpture. A wonderful opening took place with champagne and appetizers on the evening of December 7th and Wesley was among the fine stable of artists present. We also took advantage of being in Miami during the week of Art Basel and enjoyed bouncing around to several art fairs. If you are ever in Hallandale Beach, please visit:

The Bascom Celebrate Benefactor Party: Open Studio

Wesley opened up his studio for an evening of wine, appetizers, and sculpture. Benefactors were able to tour the studio, ask questions, and see Wesley's newest pieces in development. Two private pet commissions were auctioned off the next night for a grand total of $26,000.00 benefitting The Bascom.

The High Museum Gold Patron Party

Wesley was invited to be the featured artist during The Gold Patron Party at the residence of the Consul General of Canada in Atlanta, Georgia. Wesley brought fourteen sculptures that the museum displayed around the Consul General's home, both indoors and out.
During the evening, he sculpted on a piece entitled "21st Century Graces" while patrons watched and asked questions. The High auctioned off Wesley's piece "Reawakening" during the event to benefit the museum.

"This year is starting off quite busy with several new commissions underway as well as working up to the 2014 show. I hope I can get it all done! I am ecstatic to announce that Odyssey is now full-time Business Manager for the studio. She has been busy completely rebuilding the website, which is now launched.  It is absolutely beautiful, and works well across all platforms.  Please check it out and let us know what you think. If you know of anyone that would be interested in my work or would like to join my mailing list, please forward this newsletter along to them. Thanks for keeping up". Cheers~
