“RESISTING THE SLAMDOWN TOGETHER”

CELEBRATING STRENGTH THROUGH SOLIDARITY

           WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3rd, FROM 6-9PM

Dear Supporter,

Join us for a celebration of our many years of success and inspiration in working to build a safe and compassionate world without prisons.  Our work would not be possible without the powerful alliances we have built between activists communities inside and outside women’s prisons.

The event will feature lessons learned from activists inside prison, both now and throughout history.  There will be a number of special features and activities to showcase Justice Now’s work with people in women’s prisons, and to help raise funds to continue our advocacy and activism with people in women’s prisons in the year to come.

In order to stand in solidarity with those inside, come and celebrate, donating to the cause with any of the following:

$10-25 sliding scale suggested donation at the door:

This is a recommended donation, everyone is welcome to this party, no matter how much or little one can donate.

Some Things to Look Forward To…

VIDEO PREMIERE: “STERILIZATION IN PRISONS—A HISTORICAL PRIMER”

We will be featuring a premiere showing of the first video in our "Sterilization in Prisons- A Historical Primer" series.  This video seeks to illuminate the sordid history of eugenics and sterilization, to shed light on the current state of sterilization practices, and to raise awareness of the illegal and inhumane sterilization practices taking place in prisons today.

  • Silent Auction: art from inside and other unique items
  • Black Jack Table
  • Face Painting
  • Connect with Allies and Friends, celebrate successes, remember loved ones
  • A Showcasing of our NEW WEBSITE, and MUCH MORE!

…….not to mention munchies, desserts, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.

6-9pm, Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

At Justice Now, 1322 Webster Street, Ste 210, Oakland [2 Blocks from 12th Street/City Center BART station]

P.S.  When Justice Now asked activist and board member Theresa Martinez for a common phrase used by people inside to refer to women’s prisons, she gave us “Slamdown”.  In today’s intense climate of social and economic change, the ideas and strategies of those most impacted by the systems we seek to reform are the most crucial element of revolution.
