Discussion space for members on the Repeal the 8th Campaign- Update

The Equality & Rights Alliance has been asked to formally join the Repeal the 8th coalition.  In order to generate dialogue on this decision and to explore how ERA members can mobilise to show solidarity on this issue, and for future collective campaigns on other issues, on Tuesday (15th) ERA held a very productive meeting with members on how they might want to engage their own members in a meaningful way in such a campaign, and how this campaign could be incorporated into parts of ERA’s own work.

Ailbhe Smyth, coordinator of the Repeal the 8th Coalition and ERA board member gave an informative presentation which ERA will circulate via email to members next week.

ERA will continue to look at ways to support members to engage in the Repeal the 8th Campaign in the upcoming months For more information, please email or phone 087 2858485 if members are interested in being involved in these discussions.

Details of the meeting will be circulated via our Facebook page & Twitter as well as newsletter

ERA Disability Rights Working Group Reforming

The Equality & Rights Disability Rights working group was formed in 2015 to progress a rights-based approach to disability (including: service provision, policymaking and legislation). It last met in September and it is aimed to bring members back together in April to reconvene and re-energise the group.

ERA members came together to work collectively to further the actions of, and ‘add value’ to, the work being undertaken by the participating organisations and activists to advance the rights of people with disabilities. The working group is not intended to operate as a separate advocacy/campaigning entity.

Membership is open to all groups/ organisations/ activists involved in promoting the rights of people with disabilities.

A date for an April meeting will be circulated in due course but if you are interested in participating, please email or phone 087 2858485 to confirm a place

Details of the meeting will be circulated via our Facebook page & Twitter as well as newsletter

Welcome to Education Equality: The Equality & Rights Alliance's newest member

The Equality and Rights Alliance Steering Group is delighted to formally welcome Education Equality as our newest members.

Education Equality is a voluntary human rights organisation established to campaign for equality in the provision of education for all children regardless of religion. We are calling for an end to all religious discrimination in State-funded schools. Education Equality’s efforts are focused on two twin goals: removing discrimination in access to school places and promoting equal respect during the school day.

They work on the principle that equal respect for children and for the beliefs of their parents requires equal access to schools regardless of religion, the ability to choose whether or not a child receives religious instruction, and a curriculum that does not impose the beliefs of one religion on children of different religions or no religion.
