Holy Trinity - Andrei Rublev - ca. 1430
May 30, 2015

"Praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD, my soul.
I will praise the LORD all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live."
Psalm 146.1-2

Tucked away in the middle of our Bibles is the book of Psalms. It is a book of poetry, a book of songs. For thousands of years it was the songbook of the Jewish people and then of the Church. The Psalms aren't read or sung as much as they have been in previous times. Tomorrow, though, we will begin a sermon series on the Psalms, and hopefully over the coming weeks and months of this summer, the Psalter will become the songbook for our lives. And as we are more immersed in these songs and their view of God and the world in which we live, I am confident that we will be transformed more and more into the people God is calling us to be. Tomorrow, we will read (and sing!) Psalm 146. I encourage you to read and meditate on its words prior to our time together.
Tomorrow is also Trinity Sunday, which follows well after our emphasis of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost last Sunday. Accordingly, we will sing the praises of the Triune God tomorrow in worship.

The artwork at the top of the email is a detail from a "Holy Trinity," painted by Andrei Rublev around 1430.

That we might better pray for one another:

We pray for continued healing and recovery for Luci Huizinga, who is now doing rehab at General Hospital (and can receive visitors after 4:30 p.m.).
We pray for continued healing and patience for Holly Nelson, and for energy and patience for the Nelson family as they help Holly through this time.
We give thanks for a successful surgery for Rod Whitacre and pray for continued healing.
We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ of Grace Lutheran church following the fire that destroyed their building.
We pray for continued healing for Cindy Krempel who is still battling bronchitis, ear infections, and sinus infection.
We give thanks with recent graduates: Annette Vernon, Lynda Huizinga, and Alistair Krempel.
We give thanks for safe travels for Annette Vernon to Holland and pray for peace for her as she settles into her life there.
We pray for the work of the Faith & Finances advisory team as they attempt to make contacts with partners and try to connect with those who would most benefit from the course.
We pray for God's world: for the people of Nepal following the earthquakes there, and especially for the churches there who are providing relief and aid; for those who are persecuted for their faith around the world, and for those who are being called to witness to Jesus Christ with their blood; for restoration, renewal, and justice for the people of Haiti; for God's miraculous intervention in the Middle East, that the hearts and minds of the people living there, and that whole cultures, would begin to bend toward peace, and that God's church would continue to proclaim and embody the good news of God's reign  boldly there.
We pray for friends and family: for the Tarbox family; for Judy Zwierzynski's mother-in-law and those giving care to her; for Elizabeth Bennett's friend Terry, whose brain cancer has returned; for Beth Cunningham's great-niece MacKenzie; for  Doug and Pat Aukemas' nephew, Charlie, who is battling cancer; for healing and encouragement for Adam Derzanovich; for the Conrads' friend Dick who is battling cancer; and for strength and energy for Alistair Krempel.

On June 7 , directly after the service of worship, we will gather upstairs for the annual Sunday School breakfast (only this year it will be a brunch!). Following the brunch, we will have our summer congregational meeting.
