"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ - to the glory and praise of God."
~ Philippians 1.9-11

Rejoice Philippians 1

This Sunday we will hear Paul's words of prayerful thanksgiving for his sisters and brothers in Christ in Philippi and for God's faithfulness to bring to completion the work he started in them.
I encourage you to read Philippians 1.3-11 prior to our time together on Sunday.

Sunday School Schedule and Breakfast:

There will not be Sunday School this Sunday (May 25) due to the Memorial Day Weekend.
A week from Sunday, on June 1, we will celebrate another year of telling God's story in Sunday School

with our annual Sunday School breakfast. If you plan to attend, please sign up on the sheet on the back of the front door. The breakfast will conclude our Sunday School program for 2013-2014, and our teachers will be able to enjoy a well-earned vacation for the summer months.

Council Notes:

At our most recent council meeting we resumed a conversation about acquiring an AED (automated external defibrillator) for installation in the church building in order to protect Valley members and the organizations who use our building in the event of someone suffering cardiac arrest. We hope to have an AED installed by the end of July.
The council is pursuing grants to help with funding from several organizations. If you would also like to make a contribution toward the purchase of the AED please talk to a council member.

Terry Woodnorth also reported that around 60 letters were written as part of this year's Offering of Letters. That's the most Valley has ever written.

Thanks to Terry and the deacons for facilitating the letter-writing campaign, and thanks to all of you for taking the time to write!

That we might better pray for one another:

We give thanks for healing for Barb Hover, and we ask God to continue to free her body from cancer.
We give thanks for healing for Jenni DeYoung and pray for energy and strength for the rest of the school year.
We pray for family and friends: we give thanks for healing for Adam DeVoe's aunt Janet; we pray for continued healing for Jim Conrad's mother; we pray for Lor's cousin Kevin and the rest of the Recker family as they mourn the death of Lor's uncle Vern; we continue to pray for the DeYoung's 3 year old relative Kaylin as she awaits heart surgery, and for her parents Tony and Tawni and brother Micah; we pray for healing for Elizabeth Bennett's friend Terry's surgery to remove a brain tumor; we pray for healing for Jim and Dorris Pitcher's son-in-law Lee Allard who is undergoing cancer treatments.
