"The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, 'Who then can be saved?'
Jesus looked at them
and said, 'With human beings this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.'"
~ Mark 10:26-27

Set Free to Seek God's Kingdom!

We continue our series on seeking God's kingdom this Sunday with an exploration of Mark 10:13-31. I invite you to read this passage prior to our worship service. (
This section of Mark's gospel begins with the account of Jesus blessing the children. The above picture is a detail from Nicolaes Maes' painting of this scene from the middle of the 17th century.)

National Day of Prayer:
Today is the National Day of Prayer. While I was too late to get any services of prayer organized, and while I couldn't find any events in the Binghamton area to let you know about, we can still take some time today, even this evening, to pause and come before our God in prayer, interceding  for our nation and its leaders, elected and otherwise. Here is a prayer from the Book of Common Prayer for the nation that might be a good place to start:
Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Sunday Service Times:
Sunday School: 9:15 a.m.
Worship: 10:30 a.m.

In the Life of Valley Church:

Please pray for Joyce Vos as she recovers from a fall after church this past Sunday, and as she and her doctors seek to understand exactly what caused her to fall. We give thanks that there was no concussion or other serious injury, but we also need to pray for Joyce as she adjusts to not being able to drive until they have determined what caused the fall and if it is safe for her to drive.

Upcoming Events
and Opportunities:

Spring Cleaning!:
This Saturday (May 4) we will be getting together to clean up in and around the church building. We will begin cleaning at 9:00 a.m. Please join us!

Offering of Letters:
"A Place at the Table," Bread for the World's 2013 Offering of Letters, aims to realize a world in which all of God's children are fed. Our goal is to create political will by writing our policy makers, urging them to create pathways out of hunger and poverty. After the morning worship service this Sunday (May 5), you'll have an opportunity to turn your faith into action by writing letters to our members of Congress and signing a petition to the president.

Hunger and Poverty Around the World: Since Food for Peace began in 1954, more than 3 billion people in 150 countries have benefited directly from U.S. food aid. The lives of more than 2 million children are saved every year through global immunization programs supported by the U.S.
