Valley Church News

"For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit of God does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner."
~ 2 Timothy 1.6-8a

This Sunday we celebrate with nine of our youth as they profess their faith. We will also hear Paul's words of encouragement to the youthful Timothy, who needs to be reminded of the nature of the faith that he has also professed, and the nature of the Spirit that indwells those who profess Jesus as Lord. I encourage you to read and reflect on 2 Timothy 1.1-10 prior to our time together on Sunday.

The Fall Festival:
We will be holding Valley Church's annual Fall Fest on September 21, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please be prepared to volunteer, and also make sure you invite neighbors, family, and friends, especially if you live in the immediate neighborhood near the church's building. We want the Fall Festival to be a gift to our neighborhood!

That we might better pray for one another:

We pray that God would surround Frank and Barb Lockwood with his peace and comfort as they mourn the loss of their daughter Cheryl.
We pray for healing and strength for Jerry Krempel, who has been admitted to Lourdes Hospital following a fall that resulted in several broken ribs.
We continue to give thanks for the healthy newborns in our church family, and for the health of their mothers. We also continue to pray for energy and strength for the Bennett, the Monroe, and the Pierre-Louise families.
We give thanks for Tilly Huizinga's new job and pray that the transition will go smoothly.
We give thanks for the reunification within the Germain family between Etienne and Liddy and Jontanio, and we pray that Jontanio's new beginnings in the Binghamton schools would be blessed.
We continue to pray for comfort and peace for Jim and Marsha Conrad and their family following the loss of Jim's mother, Ruth.
We continue to pray for God's world: for the people of western Africa who are battling Ebola; for a peaceful resolution to the tension between Ukraine, Russia, and Western Europe and the United States, and for safety and health for the Ukrainians displaced by the violence there; for God's miraculous intervention in the Middle East, that the hearts and minds of the people living there, and that whole cultures, would begin to bend toward peace, and that God's church would continue to proclaim and embody the good news of God's reign there.
We pray for friends and family: for Mindi and Andy Jacob and their friend Kara Fontenot and her two daughters following the death of Kara's husband in a plane crash, and for the other pilots in the 104th Fighter Wing and their families; for Adam and Cheryl DeVoe's friend Joe Sanderson who is battling colon cancer; for healing for Ann DeJager's sister, Tonia, as she battle breast cancer; for Jerry's and Claire's daughter Janice and her husband Curtis as they mourn the death of their friend Wilt; for Adam Derzanovich as he recovers from surgery; for David Derzanovich's two brothers-in-law, Tim and Bill, who are also recovering following hospitalizations; for Ruth Giese's neighbors Tom and Anna, who are struggling with health and aging issues.
