Celebrating 50 Years
September 26, 2014

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
~ Hebrews 12.1-3

This weekend we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Valley Church's first gatherings for worship and God's faithfulness to Valley over the past 50 years. It is only appropriate, as we focus our eyes on Jesus and continue running the course set before us, that we also remember the cloud of witnesses that have gone before and surround us still. I encourage you to read and reflect on Hebrews 12.1-3 prior to our gathering on Sunday morning.
This Sunday we will also celebrate the Lord's Supper. The worship team recently commissioned local potter (and former Chenango Forks art teacher) Ron Scales to make new communion ware. He did a beautiful job, and we will be using the new plates and cups for the first time this Sunday.

While we look ahead to the 50th anniversary celebrations this weekend, I also wanted to take a moment to look back at the Fall Festival. We saw a steady stream of kids having a great time last Sunday, and we saw a steady stream of parents happy to let their kids run, play, bounce, and consume copious amounts of sugar in a safe, family-friendly environment! Fall Festival was truly a gift and blessing to the Chenango community.
A huge thanks to Ron Crawford for his planning and organizing (and for sacrificing himself to the cotton candy). Also, many thanks to all the rest of you who supervised the bounce houses, made cotton candy, went into the dunk tank, handed out prizes, made cookies, cleaned up, and everything else you all did. Well done, all!

Sunday Mornings:
Coffee: 9:15 a.m.
Worship Service:
10:00 a.m.

That we might better pray for one another:

We give thanks for God's faithfulness to Valley Church for the past 50 years.
We continue to pray for Frank and Barb Lockwood as they mourn the loss of Cheryl.
We continue to pray for healing and strength for Jerry Krempel, following his fall that resulted in broken ribs.
We pray for continued healing for Barb Hover as some of the cancer has returned.
We continue to pray for God's world: for the people of western Africa who are battling Ebola; for a peaceful resolution to the tension between Ukraine and Russia; for God's miraculous intervention in the Middle East, that the hearts and minds of the people living there, and that whole cultures, would begin to bend toward peace, and that God's church would continue to proclaim and embody the good news of God's reign there.
We pray for friends and family: for Tim and Sue Brown and their family as they mourn the loss of Demi; for Adam and Cheryl DeVoe's friend Joe Sanderson who is battling colon cancer; for healing for Ann DeJager's sister, Tonia, as she battle breast cancer; for Adam Derzanovich as he recovers from surgery; for David Derzanovich's two brothers-in-law, Tim and Bill.
