Christ in the House of Mary and Martha - Vermeer
May 6, 2015

"'Martha, Martha,' the Lord answered, 'you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed - or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.'"
Luke 10.41-42

This Sunday's Service:
~ Jesus in the Home of Martha and Mary ~

Sibling rivalry, fighting, and bickering is nothing new. It's been going on since there were siblings. Fortunately, the end result is usually not as extreme as the case of Cain and Abel. This Sunday we will take a break from our Acts sermon series and turn instead to Luke's gospel, and we'll hear the story of Martha and Mary. It's a story of sibling disagreement, but through it, we can learn a lot about Jesus and how we can best serve him and how he serves us. I encourage you to read Luke 10.38-42 prior to our time together on Sunday.
This Sunday we will also celebrate the feast of the Lord's Supper. As we celebrate the feast, we are reminded that it is Jesus Christ who offers us hospitality, who sets the table for us, and invites us to sit before him, the one who came to serve and not to be served. I encourage you to prepare yourself to come joyfully to the table with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

An Update on World Renew in Nepal from the World Renew Website:

World Renew is getting food, water, and cooking fuel to earthquake survivors in Nepal. It is the country's worst disaster in 80 years. World Renew aims to raise $3,000,000 to help those in the most need in this tragedy.
World Renew is working with Christian churches in Nepal and international partners to provide water purification tablets, water filtration systems, emergency food, and cooking fuel to those most in need now—and making plans to help meet future needs as the recovery progresses.
Much of the support World Renew is providing is reaching communities near the epicenter of the quake where local Nepalese churches are accessing established networks to distribute the emergency supplies.

For more information on World Renew's work in Nepal and how you can give, please see their website, here.

Sunday Mornings:
Coffee: 9:15 a.m.
Worship Service:
10:00 a.m.

That we might better pray for one another:

We pray for healing for Holly Nelson as she continues to recover from a concussion.
We pray for healing and peace for Doris Pitcher.
We pray for Barbie and Jim Aukema and Leah following the death of Barbie's mother.
We give thanks for a good Open Farm weekend last weekend and for the growing support for our local farmers and sustainable farming practices and consumption, and we pray for the farmers in our congregation and community.
We pray that those who would benefit from Faith & Finances would hear about the course and that God would guide the Faith & Finances advisory team as we prepare for a launch at a later time.
We pray for God's world: for the people of Nepal following the earthquake there, and especially for the Christian Reformed Church representatives who are there providing relief and aid; for those who are persecuted for their faith around the world, and for those who are being called to witness to Jesus Christ with their blood; for restoration, renewal, and justice for the people of Haiti; for God's miraculous intervention in the Middle East, that the hearts and minds of the people living there, and that whole cultures, would begin to bend toward peace, and that God's church would continue to proclaim and embody the good news of God's reign  boldly there.
We pray for friends and family: for Beth Cunningham's great-niece MacKenzie; for  Doug and Pat Aukemas' nephew, Charlie, who is battling cancer; for Justin Byma's uncle Ed, who is battling cancer; for healing and encouragement for Adam Derzanovich; for the Conrads' friend Dick who is battling cancer; and for strength and energy for Alistair Krempel.
