"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of truth."
~ John 14.16-17a

This Sunday we continue our break from the sermon series on Paul's letter to the Philippians. Instead of Paul, we will hear from John's gospel. In this passage Jesus prepares the disciples for his departure. He gives them some specific departing instructions, and he also promises them significant help in his absence: another advocate - the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to read John 14.12-21 prior to our service of worship.
I will not be with you on Sunday as I will be preaching for our brothers and sisters at Trinity CRC in Richfield Springs. However, we will all be united as we hear the same passage and the same sermon! I look forward to worshiping with you all again a week from Sunday.

Thank You from the Van Dams:

The following letter of thanks was sent from the Van Dam family:

Dear Friends of Valley Binghamton CRC,
It was a real pleasure to spend some time with you this past Sunday morning. Thank you for once again being great hosts and inviting us to participate in the service and fellowship with you. We especially appreciate the Haitian food, the opportunity to speak and sing in Creole, and the love of all the folks at Valley. That means a great deal to us and encourages us as we go forward.

Just a reminder, please go ahead and share the other Sous Espwa video at  a later date perhaps when you are doing an offering for World Missions. Also, there are a number of ways to continue your support for the work in Haiti through special projects. These are easy to find on-line.

We pray that you continue your involvement in the work and life of the Haitian people both in Haiti and in the Binghamton area. They have come to respect and love you and we hope this relationship grows.

Thank you once again for partnering with us in Haiti. What a blessing you have been!

That we might better pray for one another:

We continue to pray for Annette Vernon as she ministers alongside the Hospital of Hope to the people of Togo, Africa.
We give thanks for the healing that Barb Hover has experienced, and we ask God to continue to free her body from cancer.
We continue to pray that God's shalom would break forth in our neighborhoods and around the globe: for the unemployed, underemployed, impoverished, and hungry here in the Southern Tier; for the children left stranded upon arriving in the United States from central America;  for our Christian brothers and sisters in Palestine, Iraq and Syria, and for those working for peace in those places; for Ukraine and Russia; and for Nigeria.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities:

Sign-Ups for Summer Coffee Hour:
The sign-up for the summer coffee hours (you'll want to find someone to partner with for this) is on the back of the front door.

50th Anniversary:
Don't forget to mark your calendars for Valley's 50th anniversary celebrations on September 26-28. Also, please remember to let us know of addresses and phone numbers you might know of previous members who have moved away in the contact book in the foyer.
