Dear {FIRST_NAME|Valued Associate},

When potential customers visit your website, what do they find?

Do they find a maze of information about the features and benefits of doing business with you?

Or do they find a road map to the solution to a problem they are facing?

Make sure your visitors can find the information they are looking for (emphasis intentional) easily and quickly.

This month's article provides three simple solutions to guide your customers in the right direction.

Give me a call (914.806.7720) if you would like more information about how to do this for your website.

Regards, Jann

Is Your Website a Map Or A Maze?
3 Best Practices For Web Navigation

1. Three Clicks.
Just as Dorothy needed only three clicks of her ruby slippers to get back home, your visitors should never be more than three clicks away from your home page.

Information on your website should be easy to find with only a few clicks. If visitors have to hunt through multiple layers of pages, they will soon get frustrated and move on.

2. Make More Than One Path.
Make sure visitors can get to where they want to be on your site via a variety of paths. For "scanners" - people who scan your written content - provide text links to more information. For "lookers" - more visual types - create links from graphic elements added to the page.

Visitors may end up in the same place but can get there in their own way.

3. Leave A Trail.
When you're on a hike you should "Leave No Trace" but on your website trail markers are a must.

Breadcrumbs or other indicators allow visitors to navigate your site with confidence; knowing where they are at all times. Confident visitors are far more likely to do business with you.

You may need to reorganize some of the content on your site, but attracting and keeping visitors (a.k.a. customers) will make the effort worthwhile.
