Benefit Concert Kicks off
Our 5th Anniversary Season

Our 2014 Benefit Concert for Center Stage Strings was a tremendous success!

With KUSC's Alan Chapman at the helm, we welcomed special guest, superstar violinist Sarah Chang. Ms. Chang was so gracious with our students (she even brought them Sprinkles cupcakes to the rehearsal!) and she performed an electrifying rendition of Vivaldi's Four Seasons to a sold out crowd at The Colburn School's Thayer Hall.

She was accompanied beautifully by our first ever Center Stage Strings Chamber Orchestra, with concertmaster and CSS alumni Adam Millstein leading the student orchestra, along with CSS faculty members Jennie Jung and Jacob Braun.

Other highlights of the concert were solo performances by two rising stars, 11 year old violinist Sena Cho and 15 year old cellist Ernie Carbajal, as well as a unique performance of Sarasate's famous "Navarra." This virtuoso piece is usually written for two violins, but we celebrated the breadth of violin talents at CSS in a special rendition specially choreographed for eight violins!   This performance of "Navarra" was complete with dueling violinists so anxious to play, they "interrupt" and knock each other out of place.  A video will be available soon for those who missed it!

Another standout of the concert was Quartet Firenze in a stunning performance of Debussy's string quartet.   Firenze is made of Center Stage Strings alumni and Colburn School Chamber Music Institute students. The average age is only 16 years old, and they are already gaining attention, selected as participants in this year's prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
Thank you to all who attended and supported us through this concert!
