North Cobb High School Band 2016-2017

Dear Warrior Band Family,

This mid-month message comes to you just before we cross a rapidly approaching “finish line” to this year’s marching band season!

The North Cobb band had a very respectable showing at our first competition yesterday. Out of 34 bands, the band scored 8th overall and 7th in our class- A VERY strong showing of which I am incredibly proud. Had there been a prelims/finals showcase (as JSU used to be and is customary with Bands of America) we would have made finals and scored within the top 10- an honor in and of itself. The percussion section took home 3rd in class and every element of the ensemble (guard, band, and percussion) earned SUPERIOR ratings- the highest honor of the night.

This year JSU was a tough competition and we were competing alongside some very stellar groups- many are consistent BOA finalists, and many were large groups who were having their final competition either at JSU or will end their season this week. Feedback provided on our tapes was about what we expected, things we know we need to improve upon and most of which is doable between now and our last competition two weeks from now. Between now and November 5th, we will just keep the ax to the grindstone and keep improving!

I must say I was INCREDIBLY proud of how our students handled themselves at the competition! The North Cobb Band was a WONDERFUL ambassador for our community. Every time we walked as a group from one section of campus to another, every student looked professional, dignified, and classy. Parents, students, and staff from other bands kept asking, “Where are you guys from?” or “Wow, what a great looking group of kids!!” Even the JSU staff commended our group for the level of focus and professionalism that was displayed. For me- THAT was the success of the night! Mr. Pannell and I were beaming with Warrior pride all night!!

Alongside our great group of kids was a dedicated task force of parents making our show a success. I can’t thank the members of our chaperones, prop crew, and frontline enough for making the kids of our organization look like a million bucks. If you’ve got a student in the band reading this and not on one of those teams, you’re missing out! I encourage you to ride along with the band once or twice to see how “The North Cobb machine” runs and see the INCREDIBLE things your kids are doing! Your kids are involved and making some extraordinary things happen, why not be a part of the magic yourself!?

An itinerary for the Allatoona competition comes out today. We will ride school busses because it’s so close by. As customary, we will have a brief rehearsal at the school before we leave and provide the students with a dinner.

Wednesday evening at 6:30 is the parent meeting for those interested in going on the spring trip to NYC. Students went home with a packet of information and how to register online. The $50 registration fee has been extended to this Friday, October 28th.

Only two more weeks! We owe it to ourselves to keep pushing hard till the end! I love this band, our community and I’m SO proud to be a part of it.

All my best,

Sheldon Frazier
