As the year winds to a close, we wish you a happy and healthy 2014 and thank everyone who has helped make our first year a success.

Here is a taste of what Broadscale and our Network have been up to recently.

verge25 awards logo   Broadscale Group was one of four nominees for this year’s VERGE 25 “Financing the Future” award, which honors innovative approaches in helping new technologies to generate revenue and overcome first-cost hurdles. We were honored to be recognized alongside Khosla Ventures, U.S. Department of Energy, and Wells Fargo.

Stem raises financing from GE and others

Stem, a leader in advanced energy storage systems, closed a $15 million Series B financing round last week with new investors, including GE, a Broadscale Network Member, and Iberdrola. “Stem is a company to keep an eye on,” said GE’s Colleen Calhoun. “[It] has been a leader in helping transform the economics of energy consumption without disrupting the way people use electricity.” Broadscale has been working with Stem since the summer.   stem_GE_logos

Climate Week, National Academy of Sciences, DOE, and more

Tony Blair at Climate Week NYC
During Climate Week NYC in September, Andrew Shapiro led a closed-door discussion prior to the Opening Ceremony with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and an array of global leaders; he also spoke on a panel about the value of partnerships and was interviewed (click here to watch). Andrew also addressed a National Academy of Sciences summit, while Ben Rogers participated in a Department of Energy ARPA-E panel and Alison Smith spoke at a Cleantech Open event.

Broadscale's Network investing in distributed solar

The growth of rooftop solar power has been one of the most exciting energy trends of the year and several of our Network Members are getting involved. Duke Energy invested in Clean Power Finance, a solar finance marketplace, and GE invested in Sungevity, a residential solar provider. Pegasus Capital Advisors has also added to its renewable energy investment team.   sungevity_cpf_logos

Broadscale at Niagara Falls
On October 14 and 15, Broadscale held a Network Meeting in Buffalo, New York, hosted by National Grid and Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. The meeting focused on microgrids and included presentations from three growth companies.

We made a quick stop on our way to the airport to see the majestic Niagara Falls and the site of the first hydroelectric plant.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Broadscale Group! Please stay in touch.
