We are very pleased to announce that our concept of "Advanced DXA" using TBS iNsight has been gaining awareness, recognition and momentum worldwide. While TBS is in the process of being integrated into FRAX, several scientific societies have already integrated TBS into their own guidelines processes: DVO-Germany, ISCD and SEIOMM-Spain. In our Early Spring Edition Newsletter and in each Supplement Article below, you will find some more details about these exciting developments as well as a review of the studies presented at ISCD and a selection of new clinical cases shared by our TBS specialists.

  • New German DVO Guidelines

The German Osteology Society ("Dachverband Osteologie" / DVO) recently presented its project of New Guidelines for Osteoporosis Management, in which TBS is integrated as a clinical risk factor and T-score-modifier (0.5 T-score decrease per -1.75 SD TBS).
The draft was presented online and publicly during DVO annual Meeting, held in Munich in March.

  • TBS National Project in Spain

The SEIOMM, (Sociedad Española de Investigation Osea y del Metabolismo Mineral) recently launched a national project intended to establish Guidelines on TBS. The goal of this project is the creation and validation of specific thresholds (using a combination of BMD, TBS and other clinical risk factors), for diagnosis and management of osteoporosis, for therapy initiation and follow-up, based on Spanish data from all around the country. This exciting project is coordinated by Dr. Luis Del Rio Barquero who introduced the complete "SEIOMM-TBS Project":

  • 2014 ISCD Annual Meeting - February - Orlando

First, we would like to congratulate Diane Kruger who has been newly elected as President of the ISCD at the annual meeting. We were also pleased to see ISCD attracting more and more members who share a common goal of setting the highest standards in clinical densitometry practice worldwide. We are also very proud that, as expected by many users and future users of TBS, ISCD team announced that TBS is officially part of ISCD 2015 Position Development Conference.
During ISCD, TBS was highlighted at the core of several studies, including the first publicly presented study from NASA on TBS assessing astronauts. Several talks and posters highlighted the role of TBS in improving fracture risk prediction as well as the use of TBS to improve monitoring the therapeutic response. Find more info in the ISCD-TBS Report:

Dr Luis Del Rio Barquero and Dr Silvana Di Gregorio, working as Densitometry Specialists within the CETIR, Barcelona, Spain, shared with us some interesting patient clinical cases.
