Upcoming Features and Releases

  • Direct Secure Messaging - HealtheConnections offers Direct secure messaging email accounts to participating providers and the ability of providers' EMR or HIS systems to securely send Direct messages between each other. HealtheConnections Direct messaging system also provides a "webmail" interface for providers and support staff similar to common email system interfaces. HealtheConnections is a member of DirectTrust and is in the process of accreditation with EHNAC. Planned: Now.
  • myResults - A new feature to view and download laboratory, radiology, and transcribed reports results by provider, where the provider is named on the document as either Attending, Referring, Consulting, Admitting, Ordering, Copied To. Planned: June 2014
  • Provider/Patient Notifications - This feature will allow a provider to "subscribe" to notifications on provider-identified patients. The initial set of alerts to be implemented are: inpatient admission notification, hospital discharge notification, emergency department registration. The notifications will be sent to a provider's secure messaging Direct email address. Planned: July 2014.
  • Veterans Administration (VA) Query - The ability to query, view, and download veteran patient health information from the VA system. Planned: May 2014.
  • Image Link Embedded Radiology Reports Delivery - Embedding a secure web link to image studies in radiology report documents delivered to connected EMRs or to provider's Direct email account. Available.
  • Sending and Receiving Patient Continuity of Care Documents (CCD) - The ability for a provider's EMR to send and receive patient summary of care documents with the HIE. Planned: Live - Medent send; June - Medent receive; Other EMRs - TBD.
  • Results Delivery via Direct Secure Messaging - The ability to send laboratory, radiology, transcribed reports and patient summary care documents (CCDs) to a provider's Direct secure messaging email account. Planned: July 2014.
  • Immunization Query - Through partnership with Buffalo's HEALTHeLINK RHIO and a NYS Department of Public Health grant, we will be adding the capability to query/view/download the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) for full immunization histories on a patient. Planned: 4th Quarter 2014.
  • Minor Consent - Following changes in New York State policy, minors between the ages of 10 and 18 will be able to consent for themselves. Changes to current consent logic will be implemented. Planned: September 2014.
  • Enhanced Consent Values - Following changes in New York State policy, a third consent value, Emergency Only, will be added, which gives patients the option of allowing access for emergencies only. The new choices will be: Yes to allow access; No to deny access for any reason; and Emergency Only to allow access in an emergency event only. Planned: September 2014.
  • Perinatal Documents - As part of the Medicaid Redesign Team Health Information Technology Initiative, Onondaga County, in collaboration with PeerPlace, has granted HealtheConnections to integrate its technology platforms to enhance the coordination of maternity care for Medicaid-eligible women. Perinatal care documents will be sent to the HIE to be shared with a patient's care team. Planned: December 2014.

CMS rule to help providers make use of Certified EHR Technology

HHS published a new proposed rule that would provide eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals more flexibility in how they use certified electronic health record (EHR) technology (CEHRT) to meet meaningful use. The proposed rule, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), would let providers use the 2011 Edition CEHRT or a combination of 2011 and 2014 Edition CEHRT for the EHR reporting period in 2014 for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.

Important Dates & Reminders
