Connecting You to Better Care
November 2014 Issue

Refer a Provider or Organization to HealtheConnections

Do you know a provider, practice, or other healthcare organization that is not currently a HealtheConnections participant but would benefit from using our services? We are looking to add to our current 369 participating organizations. Your referral can assist us in connecting healthcare organizations across the 11-county region to the health information exchange (HIE), increasing the number of patient records and results that can be shared with the entire healthcare community. HealtheConnections would like to connect with the following healthcare organizations:
  • Single-provider practices
  • Large or multi-provider practices
  • Laboratories
  • Radiology Centers
  • Mental, Behavioral and Public Health Organizations
  • Federally Qualified Health Centers
  • Transplant organizations

...and more!

If the provider or organization you refer becomes a HealtheConnections participant, you could win an office gift! Send all referrals to your Provider Engagement Team member, or contact HealtheConnections support at:

Your Stories: HealtheConnections makes it easy to view patient records, provides quick access to images

HIE users were asked to share the ways in which their organizations are utilizing HealtheConnections' services to improve the overall delivery of care to their patients. Thank you to all users who submitted stories and congratulations to our winners, whose stories have earned them a prize!

"Since I have started using the HealtheConnections site, my job has become a little easier. I'm able to log in [to the Health Information Exchange] to access records from the hospital if a patient was there for a visit, for blood work, etc. Being able to view the reports online and not having to rely on receiving records via fax is also a good thing."
Carla Thurston, East Hill Family Medical

"A patient called the office with possible pneumonia. They were asked to get a chest X-ray, then come right over to our office. When the patient arrived a little over an hour later, we had not yet received a call from the radiologist [regarding the X-rays]. I logged onto the HIE and, within minutes, I not only accessed the X-ray report, I was able to see the films and make my own assessment. It was amazing!"
- Jef Sneider, M.D., Family Care Medical Group

Technical Talk: What's new, and what's next

Roll out continues for HealtheConnections' Image-Enabled Results Delivery service, which imbeds a link to the image maintained by imaging vendor eHealth Technologies in reports delivered to current Medent customers. HealtheConnections is looking to expand the feature to other EMR vendors. If you are receiving radiology reports via results delivery at this time and are interested in receiving this link to images, please contact your Provider Engagement Team Member. Please see the Connected EMR Vendors section of this newsletter to confirm that your EMR vendor is working with HealtheConnections.

For practices without an EMR, or a vendor that does not support Results Delivery connectivity, HealtheConnections is developing a method for Results Delivery via Direct email. If the provider is named in a lab, radiology report, or transcribed report, HealtheConnections will attach that result to a secure Direct message and deliver to the Direct address for that provider or practice.

Immunization Reporting, a new service that will allow providers to query from Patient Lookup directly to the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS), is in the final stages of testing. The query returns a full immunization history on a selected patient if NYSIIS holds such information, and reports can be converted to a PDF and downloaded.

Development of Statewide Patient Record Lookup (sPRL) is underway for the query of patient information across all 10 New York state RHIOs.

CCD Exchange is in the process of expanding to providers using NextGen, NetSmart, and Meditech.
