Kristen Caven's Cobbler*

Hello Martha, November, 2010

One season leads to another...

Last month I wrote about Lederhosen (and 350). Speaking of German words... it's time to segue into the next holiday! A year ago this time, my son was wandering around on Thanksgiving, quoting a cartoon of mine he'd found in a pile of rough drafts. Then he and a few awesome friends did a "dramatic cartoon reading" of it at my book launch. Here 'tis...

By the way, make sure you try Polly Pilgrim's color theory experiment on page 129 at dinner! (Speaking of stopping climate change... try to compost your leftovers, okay?)

Another book to feel good about...

wings thumbAs if publishing a cartoon collection wasn't enough, there's now another book out there with my name on it. My mom wrote On The Wings of Self-Esteem  in 1995, with a bit of help from moi. A new edition has come out in which she credits my writing. Thanks, mom! My self-esteem just got the BIGGEST boost! Wings has been a really wonderful contribution to the world, and has changed a lot of lives. I'm so proud to be part of it.

Speaking of self-esteem... I never realized until entering the life of a published writer that that 90% of published writers still have day jobs.

Say Howdy to the Cowgirl!

Yes, for years I felt like I wasn't really a writer because, as everyone knew, I was actually a graphic designer/editor/business consultant/handy gal Friday.  I put as little effort as possible into my business, caring much more about how my clients looked on the web and in print. Oddly enough, part of the journey of becoming an author has renewed my pride in what I do for a living. This summer & fall, I decided to put my mouth where my money was, so to speak. I re-branded Kristen Caven Design as Cowgirl Creative, and launched a business website that's as chock-full of quirk as my writer website. Stop by and check out some of the effective design I've done for my esteemed clients.

Speaking of marketing... The cowgirl wants me to tell you: My books and stuff make great holiday gifts! I've just ordered a stack of books so get them right from me if you want one autographed. (And if you're on my gift list and haven't gotten one yet, let me know! I've kind of lost track of things...)

Little Pig stampWe've got funny tshirts, posters, even cartoon Christmas cards & stamps! Top sellers are the Relax tshirts, mugs, and posters and my hysterectomy card (alas, it happens...) is going like gangbusters. But my current favorite is the t-shirt that can say "NO" when I can't seem to set a boundary on my own. Check it out! (Or don't.) Even if you don't buy anything, you can rate the things you like. (Which is like a little present to me, by the way.)

Speaking of rating things... do you want to help me play tag? If I can get 270 people to tag my book as a memoir on Amazon, it will supposedly rise to the top of the memoir lists. So if you don't feel like you have enough things to click today, please stop by Perfectly Revolting and check the memoir box at the bottom of the page. Thanks as always for your friendship and fun. I hope you have some very nice pie this month.

Fork, fork, fork...

The Last Bite

“Self-esteem creates natural highs. Knowing that you're lovable helps you to love more. Knowing that you're important helps you to make a difference to to others. Knowing that you are capable empowers you to create more. Knowing that you're valuable and that you have a special place in the universe is a serene spiritual joy in itself.”
